This week on Before You Bloom, I’m joined by the incredible Lael Stone, educator, speaker, parenting counsellor, co-founder of Woodline Primary School, and author of the beautiful new book Own Your Story.
Lael has spent over two decades guiding people through emotional healing, with a particular focus on the unconscious imprints we carry from childhood and how they shape our lives as adults. In this conversation, we explore what it really means to “own your story,” how childhood imprints influence our behaviours and beliefs, and the signs that you might be living in response to old patterns without even realising it.
Together, we dive into practical tools for beginning the process of rewriting those old stories, the importance of self-compassion and forgiveness in healing, and how to take gentle first steps when you feel overwhelmed by your emotional history. Lael’s wisdom is rooted in compassion, connection, and the reminder that it is never too late to create meaningful change.

The Before You Bloom Podcast is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I would like to recognise their continuing connection to land, water, and culture and pay my respects to their elders past, present, and emerging, and any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people listening today.
