Is there really no psychological development in old age? Are people really stagnating from the age of 50? Doris Carnevali, as a 95-year-old blogger, was outraged by psychological theories that she learned last century at nursing school. My daughter-in-law Hetty and I consider the 12 original developmental tasks which she devised.
In 1950, psychologist Erik Erikson posited that old age started at 50. Put briefly, the next 50-odd years of life should be spent contemplating our lives and feeling either despair or satisfaction. If you're learning how to be old, don't swallow that old theory whole!
Please give Hetty and the horse some stars, and follow this podcast if you might be old one day.
