12: How Gratitude Can Change Your Life

In this episode, Meghan discusses the power of gratitude. We've all had someone tell us at some point "just look at the bright side" or "count your blessings!", but what do those things really mean? Why is it that we can quickly point out everything that we don't like in our lives but we struggle to recognize all the good? 
 
Having gratitude can help us recognize all that exists in our lives. We often don't see the things that are right in front of us. In this episode, Meghan suggests an exercise in gratitude: pretend that every day you woke up and knew nothing about your life. Not a single detail of what it meant to be you. Suddenly, you see a list next to your bed and so you pick it up and start to read. The list is every single positive thing that you have going on in your life. Whether it be a supportive family, a partner that you count on, great friends, a job that allows you to support yourself, passions that you discovered and now spend time doing, and the list goes on...
 
You would suddenly feel completely fulfilled because you went from not knowing you had anything to now seeing this life filled with goodness. This is what it means to have gratitude every single day. The fact about life is that there are without a doubt going to be good days and bad days. The magic is in how strong you stay during those bad days. No matter how deep in a funk you feel, practicing gratitude can help shift your perspective.
