It's the first day of your new healthy lifestyle and you're more motivated than ever after watching David Goggins tell you to "Stay Hard!" after watching a motivational video of his. You start off strong, but overtime you start finding reasons not to make it to the gym. Work has you staying late, you stayed up too late raiding on FFXIV so now you're tired, or maybe stress came to pay you a visit. Soon enough weeks go by and you aren't feeling motivated at all, especially now that you haven't made it to the gym in a while. Getting back on track seems impossible, until you get that taste of motivation again, then it's back to it.
Motivation does have its place don't get me wrong, but a lot of people rely on it a little too much which ends up hurting them time after time.
