Nostalgia 思乡
Karl Shapiro
My soul stands atthe window of my room,
And I tenthousand miles away;
My days arefilled with Ocean’s sound of doom,
Salt and cloudand the bitter spray.
Let the windblow, for many a man shall die.
My selfish youth,my books with gilded edge,
Knowledge and allgaze down the street;
The potted plantsupon the window ledge
Gaze down withselfish lives and sweet.
Let the windblow, for many a man shall die.
My life is nowher day, my day her night,
So I lie down,and so I rise;
The sun burnsclose, the star is losing height,
The clock ishunted down the skies.
Let the windblow, for many a man shall die.
Truly a pin canmake the memory bleed,
A world explodethe inward mind
And turn theskulls and flowers never freed
Into the air, nolonger blind.
Let the windblow, for many a man shall die.
Laughter andgrief join hands. Always the heart
Clumps in thebreast with heavy stride;
The face growslined and wrinkled like a chart,
The eyesbloodshot with tears and tide.
Let the windblow, for many a man shall die.
