This week we're taking on another Best Picture winner with Kathryn Bigelow's modern warfare drama, The Hurt Locker. War in the Middle East is something we have seen a lot less of in cinema compared to other conflicts, simply because it is ongoing. But this film is on a mission to make up for that by showcasing the hellish reality for soldiers on the ground in Baghdad. Right from the start the viewer is met with the film's documentary-like approach, creating a grounded look and feel. It's a raw experience with authentic feeling characters, dialogue, and action, which only enhances the many moments of tension. Needless to say, we liked this picture quite a bit.
