136: 3 Tips for Coaching Yourself

Listen Later

In today's episode, I want to talk about three key traits we all need to become our own best coaches: flexibility, self observation, and support. As a woman who wears many hats, namely those of mom, entrepreneur, athlete, and host, it's important to me to support others and myself. And what I've learned is that giving yourself advice is more often than not the hardest thing to do. At the end of the day, we are our harshest critics. So that's why today I want to talk about listening to our minds and bodies, balancing flexibility and discipline, and most importantly, supporting ourselves.

I discuss small and big changes you can make in your daily life to help you grow and glow. From writing plans in pencil and honest reflection skills to the pitfalls of positivity and disciplined flexibility, I speak very candidly about self-coaching, because I know how challenging it can be. So listen in today, not only to learn about how you can become your biggest ally, but also about a very special program starting in January.

The Finer Details of This Episode:

  • The value of flexibility with discipline
  • Writing plans in pencil
  • Self observation
  • The importance of honest reflection
  • Being supportive

Quotes:

"I want you to be the coach you need, because inevitably, we are usually better to others than we are to ourselves."

"Because when we're rigid, it goes against our ability to grow; it goes against our ability to move forward, because we get stuck in that. And that is not helpful for anybody. And so what I want you to remember is nothing is set in stone."

"So be honest with your response, and then decide what you want to do with that information. So if you're exhausted and just feeling mentally spent, then maybe you know, take a break."

"I am the kind of person who's going to go hard all the time until I hit that wall. I've done it before. It's just who I am. It's my makeup. So I have to have these guardrails in place."

"Peace begins with me."

"Remember to practice self-observation. Tune in, be honest with how you're feeling– how you're doing. Try not to judge, use that information, and do something with it."

"Be flexible around your plan, right, not rigid. You can still be disciplined and flexible at the same time."
