Welcome to today's episode of Stop Signs are Optional where BLACK LIVES MATTER. We are taking a pause from our normal subject matter and providing space to discuss the Black Lives Matter Movement, to honor George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, and countless unnamed Black innocent victims.
To the Black Community: We see you; We hear you, We feel your frustrations, yet We have no idea what it’s like to LIVE your fears, frustrations, pain, and we are not trying to pretend like We do. As white women, we never have and never will experience racism in our country. That means we are not and could not be experts on this matter however we can act as facilitators.
Lindsey and Allie welcome Micah Anderson: A Black Man in America to the show. Micah shares part of his life and experiences as a black man and how vastly different they are from a white life through code switching, softening his personality, and changing his demeanor to make others more comfortable. This episode was recorded exactly two weeks after the death of George Floyd.
Key Moments:
[4:35] Annoyed with 'white saviors' at protests and marches.[5:50] Lindsey and Allie are ready to get uncomfortable.
