While at Texas Tech, Edgington successfully organized and launched a $20 million campaign for the Department of Petroleum Engineering resulting in a $15 million naming gift to establish the Bob L. Herd Department of Petroleum Engineering.

Edgington received a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Texas Tech, an MBA from Wayland Baptist University and a PhD in public affairs from UT Dallas. He also holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive credential.
