We're switching things up on this holiday episode of She Doesn't Settle. My good friend and creative genius, Kelly Bennett, suggested a few weeks back that I should be interviewed on my own podcast, so that's just what we did today. You're going to love Kelly - she's a great interviewer who asks some really wonderful questions that just might shed some further light on who I am and why I do what I do. So listen in as Kelly and I discuss the present, losing faith in quick fixes, and familiar myths about ambitious women.
Today's episode was certainly a fun one for me. With Kelly B playing the role of host, we thought it would be helpful to share a few of my many She Doesn't Settle moments. Battling an eating disorder and leaving a toxic marriage (with 2 little ones in tow) are just a couple of the many experiences I have overcome and which I share with the audience today. As a Type A individual who used to feel like she wasn't doing enough, but who went on to become the strong woman who now celebrates the little wins, I want to show you that there is hope for all of us, even if it doesn't feel that way. Most importantly, though, I want to remind you all that it isn't too late to change, and quite frankly it never will be.
The Finer Details of This Episode:
Quotes:
'I was so obsessed with the validation of succeeding, of showing my worth, and my value that I didn't even hear the, 'You're not happy… You're settling in these areas."
"I never actually did that internal work to recover. So for the next 12 years, I still battled with the eating disorder. I relapsed multiple times and just really struggled with letting go and being able to recover. It wasn't until I got pregnant with my first son where I really realized, 'Okay, holy sh*t, Kelly, you have got to figure this out.'"
"Anybody who's been in an abusive relationship knows that it's really easy to feel like it's your fault, because they do a good job of making you think it's your fault."
"We do a really good job of convincing ourselves that we should have already done it; Like there's no time anymore. I'm sorry, but unless you are like 95, and maybe even that is not a fair statement, you can still make change."
"The Enneagram has been a part of my coaching practice for the last three years because it is a tool that allows me to understand who I'm working with, but also to support my clients in understanding who they are, validating who they are."
"We are conditioned to set goals based on what society tells us we should want or what is ingrained in us from childhood."
"I will tell you that those little goals lead to very big changes, because both of those women ended up making even bigger leaps with other parts of their lives as a result of these small goals."
"How awesome is it that you don't have to do it alone anymore? For so many ambitious women, we tend to take everything on ourselves."
