'Culture is a mindset that comes from the top managers'
On this episode of The Shape of Work podcast, we have Sanchit Malik, Co-Founder & CEO of Pazcare, which is redefining the way employee benefits are managed in India.
As a serial entrepreneur, Sanchit has founded a couple of more start-ups before Pazcare, including Padhaaro and Townscript.
In this episode, we sit down with Sanchit to talk about:
What does an adequate health insurance strategy look like for a COVID-19 world?
Insurance is a financial risk mitigation product. Healthcare expenses can go up to any monetary value, thus an adequate health insurance strategy is a tool that helps companies safeguard the health of their employees in this pandemic-stricken world. Just as you create wealth by investing in mutual funds, insurance enables you to protect that wealth.
Unfortunately, not many people buy health insurance for themselves and their families. So, after the pandemic, there are chances to re-establish the importance of buying adequate health insurance, and MNCs should include it in their employees' packages.
This has become a norm for most organizations. Now, employers also make it an essential part of employee welfare strategies. Thus, apart from the company's salary in their compensation letters, there is now an embracing change to include health insurance to benefit the employees and their families.
What can a good employee benefits package be for today’s workforce?
In the post-pandemic world, organizations are working to retain their employees with better facilities for their mental and physical health. Employees look forward to getting hired where the company provides health insurance. While building a robust organizational culture, giving insurance has proven competitive. So, today, the employee benefits package includes the retirement plan, provident fund, and gratuity, among the employee benefits, including wellness and cost of consultations.
What does a robust organizational culture consist of?
Organizational culture is a mindset that comes from the top, right from the managerial positions, and determines how accurately management thinks about their employees. It starts from the different benefits a company offers to the employees. For instance, as quoted by Sanchit Malik, if a company is not offering insurance benefits to the employees, it straightforwardly points to a weak organizational culture. Secondly, two scenarios highlight the culture of a company. First, suppose you, as a business, are offering health benefits, but only to the employees. It talks about a different culture than the second case where insurance benefits are provided to employees and their families.
So, essentially, it is the mindset of the management which determines the culture of the organization.
