Home can be a city, a country, a person, a pet, or even a song, but more often than not, “home” is thought of as the building you live in.
Today my guest and I discuss what it’s like to have more than one home. Their experiences as a child of immigrants and my experiences as an immigrant to Canada are unpacked to expose similarities & differences in how we experience the feelings of belonging. One fifth of Canada’s population is made up of foreign-born people, making our stories relatable to millions of Canadians, even though growing up we felt singled out some of the time. We both share our complicated feelings about our multiculturalism and our split identities- the good, the bad, and the undecided.
Laughs are had over the aspects of our childhoods which only children of immigrants can relate to, and pride is found in the strength and resiliency that we both learned growing up in our homes.
