On July 23, 2007 - In the quiet Town of Cheshire, Connecticut, Steven Hayes, and his accomplice Joshua Komisarjevsky bound, and robbed the Petit Family. William Petit, husband and father was beaten but managed to free himself and seek help. Hayes and Komisarjevsky would then further their heinous crimes when Komisarjevsky raped 11-year-old Michaela and coaxed Hayes to also rape and strangle Mrs. Petit. The two killers would then douse the women and the home with gasoline and set it on fire and flee, only to be captured about a half a block away. This crime shook the Town of Cheshire to its very foundation and destroyed a beautiful and loving family. These two individuals took three innocent lives that day as well.

Hayes and Komisarjevsky were both originally sentenced to death for their crimes however their sentences were changed to Life Without Parole when Connecticut repealed its Death Penalty.
