Matthew 7:1-5 As disciples with pure hearts who are merciful, we see the needs and faults in others and desire to help them.
Galatians 6:1 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.
We are warned against adopting an arrogant, superior, and condescending attitude that makes us believe we have the right to straighten others out.
6 We must discern or judge the genuineness of others so as not to give God’s Word to those who are unworthy (Matthew 13:13-16). Likewise, we must be aware of false prophets and teachers (Matthew 7:15-20).
7-12 Understanding that God provides for our every need places us in the position to treat and love others without ulterior, self-centered motives. We are free to love others without seeking anything in return.
13-14 The way is narrow because it requires commitment, discipline, faithfulness and often goes against worldly desires and pressures. This path leads to eternal life and fulfillment, but not many choose it because of the sacrifices it demands. The wide gate and broad road represent living for the flesh, worldly desires, and self-indulgence.
21-29 The most important matter for us is obedience to our God.
