Today, I’m speaking with Danielle. We talk about her first birth within a birth centre. The experience ended with her son being unnecessarily pulled from her body by the medical midwife, causing tearing to her vulva.

After having a friend mention to Danielle that what had happened to her, during her first birth, was not right, Danielle came to realize that for her next babies she wasn’t going to pay to have another provider pull them from her body.

She chose to birth free of the medical system with her second baby, where her placenta stayed in for a longer that what’s considered normal amount of time. All was well and Danielle trusted her instincts and safely released it when it was ready.

For her third birth, Danielle’s mother passed away before the baby was born, but Danielle was able to lean into the grief while navigating this pregnancy and birthed her baby in the comfort of her own closet.
