What in the complete fuck is up, skaters?
This here is the sixteenth full episode of Vent City which originally was a place to talk about skating and all its bullshit and although we don't really use that tag line anymore we do, however, still talk about skating and much of its bullshit.
This ep we've got five fine folks—Alex White, Kyle Beachy, Ted Barrow, Ryan Lay and Ted Schmitz—tackling three things at length:
Nick Mathews on Huf. It's awesome. It's good. It's encouraging to see a talented young non-coastal sk8r get some shine. We don't fully know what "on Huf" means, but we like that Nick is that.
We briefly touch the AO piece in GQ with a ten-foot pole only before realizing, there's not a whole lot there and that it just made Ted S—who is currently writing to you—kind of insecure about his own hotness compared to the chiselled Jesus. Anyway, why do outside publications think skaters who every now and then drink water and stretch are so fascinating? We get into that as well.
Moving on, we talk about Jenkem CEO, CFO, COO, and probably also Head of HR, Ian Michna on a different podcast. Mostly just to have a discussion about the corrupting influence of advertising in media and alternative funding models and how goddamn hard it is for the skate economy to keep it's head above water without the big four pairs of shoes helping out.
Anyway, buy Vans and Welcome or REAL boards. We're not paid to say that but who gives a shit. I'm the one who gets to write these and I thought it was funny. There will be no links to the things we discuss because you probably already saw them. Actually, here's the Nick Mathews part just in case you're confused: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QnaiF5bo4E
Ok, that's it. More shows soon. We love you.
