~ Ehou maki ~

Have you heard of a food called Ehoumaki?

Yesterday was Setsubun, which is the day between winter and spring.

Every year, there is a certain direction which brings you a good luck and that direction is called ehou.

On setsubun, we eat a seaweed roll facing ehou.

This year’s ehou is west south-west.

【Today’s words】

/ seaweed roll that is eaten on setsubun

/ a day between two seasons

※ But mostly 節分 means the day between winter and spring.

What we do on setsubun are…

・Throwing soybeans to the outside saying “おには そと、ふくは うち” which literally means “Deamons out, good luck in”.

・Eating the same number of soy beans as your age for good health.

If you’re 30, you eat 30 soybeans.

(You would be thirsty, I think ten is the limit😂)

・Eating ehoumaki facing ehou and you can’t say anything until you finish it.

(It’s difficult but it’s said that there are many lucks in ehoumaki and you should be quiet while eating it so that those lucks wouldn’t go away.)
