On Monday in his daily press conference, Donald Trump declared that as president he has “total authority”. This was in response to the moves that state governors were making to deal with the pandemic on their own. The comments made by President Trump should alarm everyone who still cares about democracy and what the United States of America stands for. And for Asian Americans, this bent towards a dictatorial, authoritarian style of governing by Trump should be a wakeup call given our own cultural histories. May puts this all into perspective and sees this as a rallying cry to change the tide for the sake of the sacrifices our families made to be in America and be Americans.
