#17 - Focusing ONLY on Cardio is doing yourself a Disservice

Do you solely rely on Cardio for your fat loss goals? If you do, you're doing yourself a huge disservice by missing out on the benefits Resistance Training (weightlifting) can provide when it comes to hitting your fitness goals.

Many people believe that cardio is more than enough to lose weight, and while cardio is great for your cardiovascular health, and weight loss. It's not so great for fat loss.

Is weight loss & fat loss the same thing? Not necessarily. When it comes to understanding the difference it's as simple as breaking it down like this:

Weight loss = The loss of both fat AND muscle.

Fat loss = The loss of body fat while retaining as much muscle as possible.

When focusing only on cardio, you will hit a plateau. Breaking that plateau will require either more cardio, less calories, or both.

By introducing resistance training into your routine, you will increase your lean muscle mass which will increase the calories your body burns overtime. Not only will you be able to eat more to maintain your muscles, but you will also avoid running into the skinny fat trap and avoid having to severely cut down your caloric intake in order to continue to lose weight.
