Protecting our oceans from chemical pollution isn’t just important on a corporate and Government level but also on an individual one. Many of the products we use daily and whilst swimming in the ocean can cause huge damage to coral, marine life and even our human health. Sacha Guggenhiemer felt the strain of this impact whilst working as a marine biologist at Nigaloo Reef in Western Australia. That was when she first tested out a homemade sunscreen in her blender and SunButter Skincare was born. Sacha and her partner Tom have continued to grow the business to include other skin and hair care products and have had their sunscreen approved by the TGA. In our conversation we dive into the impact of chemical pollution on our oceans, the challenges of manufacturing a sunscreen whilst meeting their sustainability requirements and how seeing ourselves as separate to nature is one of the biggest problems for our oceans. Sacha shared so much knowledge in this episode and taught me a ton about how the chemicals in our sunscreens are actually impacting the health of our oceans. If you want to learn more about how you can cut your impact on the ocean then this episode is for you! Find out more: https://www.tylalockwood.com/podcast/17
