If you’ve ever heard of Robert Maudsley, you will probably know that he holds a world record for being the prisoner who has spent the longest time ever in solitary confinement.

You will likely know that this was within a glass box inside HMP Wakefield Prison, and you will have probably heard him referred to as ‘Britain’s Hannibal Lecter’.

But, is this media depiction of a crazed cannibal actually correct?

Of course not. But does he deserve the whole life order that was imposed on him?
