In this message from Luke 1:26-38 Pastor Bill discusses how Christmas breaks our illusion of control, shows us God has always been in control, and considers how we should respond to these things.
In this message, we look at a well-known story that Jesus tells at the end of the Sermon on the Mount about a house built on the rock and one built on the sand. The house on the rock weathers the storm due to its firm foundations. We need to have firm foundations in our lives too. We do this by being confident in the ways of Jesus and in who Jesus is. This leads us to a place of obedience to Jesus' teachings. We see that this story can be a comfort, a caution, or a clarification when it comes to the way that we live our lives and deal with storms and uncertainty.
In this message we look at the topic of "time". We find that rather than ask the question "what time is it?" we should better ask "what am I doing with my time?" We address two key areas - spending time with God and spending time with others - and we look at the barriers we face in doing this. We discover that to live in the flow of time, we need to mirror Jesus in the way He spent his time. To help us put what we have learned into action, we look at the two words for "time" in the New Testament and see how each of them gives us instructions on how we should best use our time.
