We all know about the external battles of life. But what about the battle within? The battle within our own mind. The battle of jealousy. The battle of insecurity. 1826 Leader, Joe Ross, dives into how David and Saul deal with their battles within.
Key Verse: "8 Once more war broke out, and David went out and fought the Philistines. He struck them with such force that they fled before him. 9 But an evil spirit from the Lord came on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. While David was playing the lyre, 10 Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear, but David eluded him as Saul drove the spear into the wall. That night David made good his escape." - 1 Samuel 19:8-10
Discussion Questions:
1. Do you relate more to Saul or David in this current season, finding yourself fixed on others around you or fixed on God pursuing His call?
2. Is there any area that you need a victory in?
3. Do you feel like the enemy/people seems to constantly throw spears at you for no reason? What are those spears?
4. Like David showed the power of worship to bring release from a darkness, how often do turn to praise for the breakthrough? What are some things you turn to that keep you from worship?
5. How can you remain steadfast in your current season?

- What victories has God brought you through that will equip you for your future?
- Any current battles you feel God is bringing you too?

Have you been in mourning? Maybe over a relationship or a job loss. We all go through seasons of grief and mourning. We find the great Samuel in a season of mourning in 1 Samuel 16. God asks Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul?" AKA It's time to move on... God loves us, but He wants to see us flourishing in His plans for us and not stopped by our own mourning.
KEY VERSES:
"The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.” 2 But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.” 4 Samuel did what the Lord said. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked, “Do you come in peace?” 5 Samuel replied, “Yes, in peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come to the sacrifice with me.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “The Lord has not chosen this one either.” 9 Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Nor has the Lord chosen this one.”10 Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” 11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” 12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” 13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah." - 1 Samuel 16:1-13
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1. Samuel was told by God "how long will you mourn?" We all go through seasons of mourning, grief, sadness, etc. Without specifics do you feel like you have recently gone through or are going through a time of mourning? And how long is too long when mourning?
2. Joe talked about how Samuel had to enter into the unknown. It can be intimidating to walk into the unknown. How can we trust God while we walk through the unknown?
3. How does it make you feel that God does not need you tot be small in order for Him to be big? (In other words, God is not insecure like Saul was towards Samuel, transformation with God brings us from the small places we are and makes us great)
4. Samuel waits until the 8th man before God says "yes." What do you feel like God is leading you to wait on?
Have you ever felt empty? After Jesus was crucified, He was placed in the tomb. Mary went to the tomb but when she arrived it was empty. Emptiness is interesting because it's absent yet it's hard to carry. Mary assumes the worst, but the tomb was only empty because Jesus had risen. Has the thought ever occurred to you that maybe the empty space you find yourself in, has already been conquered. And the one who conquered it, is just waiting for you to turn around and meet Him again.

This week we meet a very human Jesus in Matthew 26. The night before "Good Friday" and the crucifixion, Jesus finds himself overwhelmed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Take a listen to the overwhelming moments in the Garden.
Key Verses:
Matthew 26:36
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Yet not what I will, but what you will.” 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” 41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Discussion Questions:
1. How do you feel knowing that Jesus also felt overwhelmed?
2. Do you ever feel like your are not a “friend of God?”
3. Do you feel comfortable asking people to draw near when you feel overwhelmed? What can you do in the future to make sure you don’t go through hard days alone?

John 9: 1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
Where is the place Jesus is sending you to restore you?
1826 Leader, Joe unpacks John 4. "Jesus, tired... sat down." Are you tired? Do you need a moment to just sit. Listen to this conversation about a time Jesus became tired.
Discussion Questions:
1. Are you tired?
2. How does it make you feel that Jesus got tired too?
3 Joe said, “maybe being weary doesn’t make you weak.” Do you find that when your tired, you feel helpless or weak? Emotionally, spiritually?
4. Jesus rested at Jacob’s well. Where do you find rest?
5. What are you doing to prepare a well for the next generation to find rest at?
6. Have you been walking around a situation, that you need to walk through?

Our first installment of a brand new collection of talks about the life of Jesus. "Jesus Walks: Through Storms" was an encouraging word on Matthew 14.
KEY VERSES:
"25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down." - Matthew 14:25-32
Discussion Questions:
1. How are you preparing for your future storms?
2. What are you asking God for?
3. How are you positioning yourself to be in a position for God to say, “come?”
4. Asking for help is often frustrating or embarrassing. How are you going to live knowing Jesus “immediately” has your back?
5. How can you be like Jesus and walk with others back to safe places?
