It was another special night at the City Ground, even if the Reds did well to hold on for a point, albeit against arguably the best team in Europe. Things got off to a flyer with Chris Wood's early strike, and Forest held their own until sub Diogo Jota scored with his first touch. Forest then had to show true grit and resilience (and some great saves from Matz Sels) to earn the point on a night that left players and fans exhausted.

Forest got the job done with a relatively comfortable cup win over plucky Luton, with goals from Ryan Yates and Ramón Sosa. The away team did have some chances, but Forest could have scored more as well, and considering that the Reds made eleven changes to the team, and got Danilo back on the pitch, half a season after his badly broken ankle.

It was a misty afternoon on the banks of the Trent and a Happy Christmas for Reds fans, who watched their team climb to third in the table with a victory over Spurs. As ever, it was built on defensive resolve and counter-attacking might, with Anthony Elanga getting the decisive strike.
