1941: Reassess Your Values with Meditation

Listen Later

When we are young we look to our parents and caregivers to teach us. We also look to our literal teachers, as well as religious leaders for those of faith. And while all these people hopefully have our best interests at heart, sometimes their beliefs and values are reflective of their upbringing, possibly tainted with outdated ways of thinking, biases and prejudice.

Meditation has a wonderful way of teaching us about ourselves. When we sit in stillness we have the ability to cocoon ourselves in spaciousness, free of the thoughts of the outside world. In this peaceful bubble we can determine what really has meaning for us. Today I talk about how to determine our values with meditation.

Discussion points in the Episode:
  • Where do we get our values?

  • Are the beliefs we grew up with still pertinent

  • How beliefs can be biased

  • Using meditation to help you understand what is of use for you now

  • How outdated beliefs cause uneasiness
