If you awaken a desire within you or pay attention to your dreams things will happen to take you towards it, some times by choice and some times by force. I believe the universe listens to our human callings and then creates opportunities for us to follow. If we don't make the choices that take us along the path we seek sometimes the universe will force us to.

An awakening, a moment or a time were you had a realisation or desire of doing something more is all it takes to create the momentum you need in life. At these moments we tune our attention towards a new ideal or direction. We allow our thoughts to be generated towards that which we seek.

We then make personal efforts and take action towards it or choose not to however, if we continue to allow these thoughts to occupy our mind the universe has its own way of making us take action.
