Several years ago, an eight-year-old boy had fallen into a canal and became stuck in a pipe that took water to a nearby field. His whole body was submerged in the pipe and he was in danger of drowning. His twelve-year-old friend extended his hand, and though he could not get him out, he held the boy safely until help came and rescued him. You know, the church could be thought of as the extended arm of Christ, to a world in dire need of compassion and rescue.
