Randolph "Soapy" Smith was the King of Frontier conmen. His cons ran from shenanigans that felt like a 3 Stooges skit, to participating in what was later dubbed the "City Hall War" in Denver. He built shady empires, but you can't escape that kind of lifestyle unscathed.

Back in 2021, a story emerged that broke through the haze of the pandemic. A cult leader was found dead in Crestone, her body wrapped in Christmas lights and her face covered in glitter. Amy Carlson started her cult back in the late 2000s, but the group really gained traction when livestreaming became popular - using their online platform to sell all kinds of New Age goods. But the dark side of the group came to light with the death of their leader and the galactics failure to come retrieve her body.

Way back in 2021, the world at large was made aware of the travesty that was the Residential Schools in Canada - schools where indigenous children were removed to from their home and stripped of their cultural identities (and often, their lives. Unfortunately, the United States was not innocent of this tactic (called Indian Boarding Schools in the US). In this episode, we explore Colorado's history with the phenomena - centered around the Grand Junction and Fort Lewis schools.
