Bandits on Sunday attacked the Abuja-Kaduna highway, killing a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sagir Hamidu.

Hamidu who was a former director of Protocol in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), recently ran for the governorship position in Zamfara State and is said to have had his eyes on the seat come 2023 elections.

He was reportedly wounded fatally by bullets from the guns of the bandits who shot sporadically, leaving several others injured.

At least five persons have been confirmed dead in a gas explosion at Ladipo in the Mushin local government area of Lagos state.

The explosion occurred earlier today at the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) domestic retail centre located on Ojekunle street at the popular Ladipo spare parts market.

Fourteen persons have been arrested in connection with the siege on Justice Mary Odili’s apartment in Abuja, the police said on Thursday.

Some of the suspects include a fake Chief Superintendent of Police, Lawrence Ajodo; a contributing editor with one of the national dailies, Stanley Nkwazema, and an Islamic scholar.

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, says he has no connection with the land or the high-rise building that collapsed while under construction on Gerrard Road in Ikoyi, Lagos.

In a statement on Friday, the Vice President’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, stated that his principal has no interest in the said property.

“Let it be made absolutely clear that Professor Yemi Osinbajo does not own and has never owned the said land,” Akande said. “He has also never been involved, in any shape or form, in the development of this or any other land since he became Vice President.

The Lagos State Governor has named the members of a panel of inquiry set up by the government to probe the building collapse in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who visited the scene for a second time today also listed the names of survivors so far.

He appealed to families and residents to remain hopeful as rescue operations continue to find more survivors following the collapsed building.

More people have been confirmed killed and more survivors rescued hours after a high-rise building collapsed in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

Channels Television had reported the incident which occurred on Monday afternoon along Wesley Road in the commercial hub of the nation.

While four persons were killed and five others rescued as of Monday night, the death toll and number of survivors rose on Tuesday as rescue efforts continued through the night.

According to the spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), 11 more bodies have been recovered.

He added that five more persons trapped under the rubble have been rescued by emergency responders at the scene.

This brings the total figures of those killed and rescued so far to 15 and 10 respectively.
