You can either be a good example or a horrible warning. In Genesis 19:31-38, Lot is our horrible warning. As Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:16, all scripture is inspired by God and is good for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. Lot's actions are definitely an instruction in what not to do to be righteous.
