Following Jesus’ prediction of his death, James and John ask to be seated at his side in glory. Jesus asks if they will be able to drink the cup. They respond affirmatively and he agrees but says that the seats aren’t his to give. The other ten respond with anger toward James and John for the question. Jesus reiterates on what greatness is in his kingdom and what it means to be his disciple and how that is related to and patterned on why he came.

As Christians, we are all, always, on the road with Jesus. On this road, Jesus knows the way, Jesus leads the way, and Jesus is with you on the way.

The kingdom of God belongs to the helpless… and until you receive it as such, it’ll never belong to you.

Relating marriage and Christ/Church.

According to Jesus, the way to be first is to be last and the way to be last is to be a servant of all. Being a servant means receiving and welcoming those without prestige or position or power—the little, the least, the last and undeserving—just like Jesus did with us. It’s only when we’ve really learned to welcome others like this that we’ve really learned to welcome Christ into our lives and through Christ, the Father in heaven.

True faith doesn’t have faith in itself. True faith is always aware of how small and inadequate it really is.

Follow and obey Jesus, the Glorious King and Suffering Servant-Savior.

Following Jesus has costs associated with it. Christianity doesn’t cost you anything and yet it costs you everything.
