The day begins with big mileage and cruisey trails, but things take a turn when climbing the Matterhorn. The sisters learn how to deal with mental fatigue and assess together when it is better to go on and when it is appropriate to stop. A member of the trio also suffers a medical issue leaving the group to give first aid and work through the issue together. In between there are also some fun stories and laughter!
On a beautiful, sunny day in the Oregon Alps, Molly, Carrie and Rachel explore the area surrounding Glacier Lake and summit Eagle Cap. The sisters look back on how much they’ve grown since that summit and discuss fun trail details. They also talk about the woes of camping on an island, how often Uno cards come out of the pack and share more fun stories of a day on trail. Join us for another day in the backcountry!!
Today the trio heads from Aneroid Lake to Glacier Lake over beautiful Polaris Pass. Their day is almost thwarted by thunderstorms, horse grade switchbacks, and packed campsites. They discuss their first tuna creation experience, subpar electrolyte brands, one pound garden trowels and much more! Join us in the Wallowas.
Join Carrie and Molly on one of their early, formative backpacking trips. The girls discuss their early backpacking mistakes and the lessons they learned in the Oregon alps. From bringing way too much chocolate milk, to trusting AllTrail mileage, to attempting to hang a “bear bag” over a lake in a wind storm, to dealing with lightening on trail there are so many good stories from the first day of this trip you don’t want to miss it!
On the final episode of our timberline trail series, the group makes their way back to timberline lodge. From gazing on the beautiful Ramona Falls (and gagging?!) to enjoying the paradise park alternate, to crossing the Sandy River and getting mistaken for PCT hikers they enjoy this magnificent trail. Also Carrie addresses her beef with Instagram “pooping style” videos. Join us for laughs and another awesome day exploring outdoors.
A big day on trail as the crew must cross the formidable Elliott Creek, as well as the Coe branch. Hear their experiences from those crossings as well as their time in the burn area, why they chose the PCT alternate, and what it’s like to camp in a maze of sinkholes.
Carrie, Molly, and friends rejoin the Timberline Trail, cross Newton Creek, and search for the perfect campsite… but their plans are derailed when Mt Hood turns their tents into kites. Tune in for more helpful tidbits on the trail and, as always, laughs!
The sisters and their friends embark on their first day on the beautiful timberline trail. Many challenges await them—closed sections of trail, long reroutes, and their first river crossing with their group. They discuss techniques for safe crossing of rivers and reminisce on the meadows and views to be found in the first half of the first day of their counterclockwise backpacking journey around Mount Hood.
The sisters talk about planning and preparing to circumnavigate Mount Hood on the iconic Timberline Trail. They discuss the virtues of going clockwise vs counterclockwise, timing creek crossings, where to start and much more! Join us for the first episode of this series!
After a light & fun discussion about their journey after the trail (and a bear break-in!) Carrie and Molly have an honest discussion about what it’s like to quit a trail. They talk about assessing yourself and the situation, when to push through, and the mental burden of not fulfilling the expectations you have for yourself. (Starts around minute 16). Honesty is the best policy, and we hope to open a discussion around the fact that success in the wilderness is based on a safe return—not finishing every objective no matter the risk. Stay tuned in to the end to hear about behavioral economics and the sunk cost effect for some research-backed encouragement on when it’s ok to quit. They also announce the topic of their next series!
