In this series, I explain why Black Americans went from supporting the former Party of Lincoln to embracing the Democratic Party.
This episode explains how southern white Republicans banded together to form the Lily-White movement, which systematically ousted black leaders from their positions in the GOP, and how the party started courting white voters in the South, which was dominated by the Democrats.
I detail the rise of the Lily-White movement and its conflict with the Black and Tan faction of the Republican Party and how the latter eventually gained control of the GOP in the South.
