Out in Los Angeles, it is always "Hi, I am so and so" followed by a quick description of your occupation. What I have noticed is that everyone out here not only introduces themselves like that, but they introduce some amazing people like that. I do not care if you work in a drive through or if you are the COO of apple... who are you?
