On the Grasshopper and Cricket
BY John Keats
The Poetry of earth is never dead:
When all the birds are faint with the hot sun,
And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run
From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead;
That is the Grasshopper’s – he takes the lead
In summer luxury, – he has never done
With his delights; for when tired out with fun
He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed.
The poetry of earth is ceasing never:
On a lone winter evening, when the frost
Has wrought a silence, from the stove there shrills
The Cricket’s song, in warmth increasing ever,
And seems to one in drowsiness half lost,
The Grasshopper’s among some grassy hills.

The Poetry of earth is never dead:
When all the birds are faint with the hot sun, And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead;
后半部分是主句:a voice will run 会有一个声音跑来跑去;From hedge to hedge从一个篱笆到另一个篱笆;about the new-mown mead围绕着刚修割过的草地。
That is the Grasshopper’s –
That is the Grasshopper’s voice.
he takes the lead In summer luxury,
– he has never done With his delights;
for when tired out with fun He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed.
tired out with fun玩累了;at ease惬意地;这句话在解释上一句话,为什么说它总能愉快呢?
The poetry of earth is ceasing never:
On a lone winter evening, when the frost Has wrought a silence, from the stove there shrills The Cricket’s song, in warmth increasing ever, And seems to one in drowsiness half lost, The Grasshopper’s among some grassy hills.
这句话主干是:there shrills the Cricket’s song, and seems the grasshopper’s among some grassy hills. On a lone winter evening在一个孤独的冬日夜晚;when the frost Has wrought a silence(wrought 形成、做成)当冰霜凝成寂静;from the stove蛐蛐声是从火炉那传来的;in warmth increasing ever在不断升温的温暖中;to one in drowsiness half lost对于一个在暖意中睡眼昏花半梦半醒的人来说。
