2022 Sunday Messages

Do you know what it is like to sleep peacefully until your first trip to the bathroom and then for some unknown reason you vainly attempt to solve all your problems and some of the world’s?

One of the great privileges of my boyhood days, was the post-game ritual of lining up and shaking hands with the opposing team. It was a sign of respect, sportsmanship, and the American way. Since that time I have always admired the college and professional athletes and coaches who scratch and claw like cats and dogs on the field, but after the game briskly walk over to congratulate their opponent. Some even kneel, link arms and pray, acknowledging that there is something more important going on in this world than a Superbowl.

January 6, 2021 has become another epiphany of sorts. I watched in horror along with most of America as a riotous mob stormed the capitol, threatened our elected leaders, killed a policeman by bashing his head with a fire extinguisher, and hospitalized many others while those outside smiled, took selfies, and high-fived one another with obvious satisfaction. A demagogue-like leader eschewed a peaceful transfer of power and instead incited, instigated, and mobilized this disgrace.
