2.0L inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is marking the second model year since being refreshed. Bringing this model year’s Tiguan four trim options. Plus minor aesthetic tweaks. And, for the SE R-Line Black trim, new 19-inch wheels.
Available trims for the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan are as follows. The base model S trim starts at a $26,950 manufacturer-suggested retail price.
*All prices starting MSRP – plus $1,295 destination
One of the things we like about Volkswagen as a brand. Is that the carmaker tends to equip its various trims with most of its available options. So you still have options to select after picking your trim. But VW equips their trims nicely. Simplifying the buying process.
For the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan, the engine and transmission options are simple.
Because, no matter what trim, there’s a single engine. And when it comes to the trans. You need only select from two-wheel or all-wheel drive.
For Tiguan, two-wheel drive is front-wheel drive. While, in the Volkswagen family, all-wheel drive is called 4MOTION.
So the engine is a peppy 2.0L inline four-cylinder. It’s turbocharged and puts out 184 horsepower with 221 pound-feet of torque. And the transmission is a smooth and spirited 8-speed automatic.
When it comes to MPG, Tiguan is a respectable player in the compact SUV segment. With an overall EPA estimated range for all configurations of between 22 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan’s curb weight pushes the scales between 3,737 and 3,821 depending on your configuration. With 4MOTION AWD being the heavier option.
But regardless of configuration, Volkswagen’s Tiguan has a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.
184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is extremely difficult to differentiate from its previous model year. But that’s great because, with that year’s refresh, Tiguan has never looked better.
An athletic stance from the front and rear. Compliments a clearly European and Volkswagen profile and badging. Plus exceptionally clean lines silhouette the three-quarter views. Both in the front and the rear.
Exterior Dimensions
*All inches – FWD/AWD where applicable.
Sliding into the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is both easy and a pleasure.
Because while it’s considered a compact SUV, it’s big inside. With Volkswagen’s ever-present attention to fit and finish detail. Along with great usage of space.
And Tiguan’s optional 3-rows of seating to accommodate up to 7 passengers is hard to find in compact SUVs. Younger kids are perfect for that third row. Or smaller adults for short drives.
Interior Dimensions
*All inches – front/second/third rows
Up to 73.4 cubic feet of cargo space
And with the backseat or backseats (if you opt for 3 rows) folded down. The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan provides up to 73.4 cubic feet of cargo space.
Huge available panoramic sunroof
Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit is standard across all Tiguan trims. With an 8-inch infotainment display topping the center stack for all but the top trim.
Because the SEL R-Line model gets upgraded to a 10.25-inch touchscreen. Also, that comes with the ‘Pro’ version of VW’s Digital Cockpit.
Also with that top trim is a Fender Premium Audio system. Which music lovers in all Tiguan seating rows appreciate. 480-watt, 12-channel amp powers nine speakers including a Bassman subwoofer and more.
Then there’s IQ.Drive, Volkswagen suite of driver assistance and safety tech features.
Including forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise, lane keeping, and semi-automated driving assist.
There’s also available park distance control and parking steering assistance. Overhead camera and dynamic road display. Plus many more features to make driving easier and safer.
Evidencing Volkswagen’s overall attention to safety. Tiguan receives a Top Safety Pick+ designation. That’s from the universally recognized IIHS. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
