The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 is somehow on its fourth model year. I say somehow because it doesn’t feel like it has been out that long.
It’s a big compact EV SUV that seats five. And it’s significant because it’s the first all-electric vehicle from VW to be released in the US on the carmaker’s MEB platform. That’s the platform Volkswagen says will usher in its EV future.
Back to that ‘doesn’t feel like it has been out that long’ point. In a few short years, electric vehicles have had a wild ride. With carmakers going ‘all-in’ on an EV future. Only to question that strategy later after the global public doesn’t go along with the program.
But here’s the thing with EVs in Southern California. They make a lot of sense. Because we have very defined commutes and the ability to easily keep our EVs charged. So the Volkswagen ID.4 can be the perfect tool for the job… of getting you to and from yours. As well as many parts in between!
And yes, as of this writing, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 is eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit.
⇒ iDSC is driven by Ontario Volkswagen
For 2024 the VW ID.4 rolls with three trims. Plus two optional batteries along with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. An optional new performance drive unit producing more horsepower. Also an optional larger dash display and more interior enhancements like a new climate control interface, steering wheel layout, and shifter position.
When it comes to trims and pricing for the 2024 VW ID.4, it can get a bit confusing. Because there are many configuration options when you factor in the trim, battery, and drive options. For example, the Standard S and Pro have the same starting MSRP. But that’s due to the Standard S only being offered with a smaller battery. While the Pro trim comes only with a larger battery option.
VW likes to say that the MEB vehicle framework returns the carmaker to its roots. Like the original Volkswagen Beetle, the base-model single motor ID.4 has its motor in the rear. So the ID.4 rear-wheel drive option delivers a single motor. Where the all-wheel drive option gives you two motors. Of course, with two motors you’re getting more horsepower and torque. But you also have to factor in the battery options.
The smaller battery pack delivers 62 kilowatt hours and the larger powerplant juices up to 82kWhs. The 62kWh battery with rear-wheel drive delivers 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. And the 82kWh battery with rear-wheel drive gives you 282 hp and 402 lb-ft of torque. Then going with the larger 82kWh battery along with two motors and all-wheel drive tops off ID.4 with 335 hp and 99 lb-ft of torque in the front with that same 402 lb-ft of torque in the rear.
When talking EVs and fuel economy, here too things change a bit. Now the conversation is miles per gallon equivalent. With the 62kWh battery and rear-wheel drive, ID.4 delivers 115 MPGe in the city, 98 on the highway, and a combined 107 MPGe.
Adding the 82kWh battery to rear-wheel drive gives you 115 MPGe in the city with 104 on the highway for a combined 113 MPGe. And that bigger battery with all-wheel drive drops down to 108 MPGe in the city with 96 on the highway and a combined 102 MPGe.
Finally, we have the battery range. Which differs slightly depending on your configuration. So the 62kWh rear-wheel drive delivers an EPA estimated range of 206 miles. While the 82kWh rear-wheel drive gets you up to 291 miles. Then the 82kWh with all-wheel drive drops down to 263 miles per full charge.
Being a fully electric compact SUV you wouldn’t expect such ample spaciousness inside ID.4. But that’s what you get. Partially because it’s an EV, so the normal construct and constraints of an internal combustion (ICE) vehicle do not apply. But also thanks to Volksagen’s legendary attention to detail in fit and finish.
VW’s press folks even go so far as to refer to the interior of ID.4 as ‘airy’ and I’d say that’s an accurate and fair description. Even elegant in simple design terms with a less is more motif.
Different from its Volkswagen ICE siblings. Yet continues to be unmistakably a VW, in electric vehicle terms. Ample space is supported by equally ample charging and connectivity capabilities.
An optional giant glass roof accentuates the changing driving dynamic along with a giant touchscreen monitor and future-is-now controls.
*All inches
The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 maintains its futuristic aesthetic while continuing to exude VW DNA. A sweeping profile delivers a hint of EV. But you really cannot be certain that it doesn’t run on fossil fuels until you spot the lack of tailpipes.
*All inches
ID.4’s infotainment and technology interface is driven by a seemingly floating in-dash touchscreen along with a monitor resting upon the steering column. Equally futuristic to the overall design of the interior is the way drivers interact with the ID.4.
Volkswagen refers to the interface and design of the infotainment system as the ID.Cockpit. Drivers manipulate the system mostly through voice and touch controls. Enhancing that interface is haptic feedback. And a new option for the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 with the 82kWh battery pack is a 12.9-inch touchscreen. With that comes backlit sliders and an overall more intuitive operating system.
Two sound system configurations are available for ID.4. There’s a standard seven-speaker system. And for the audiophiles who want to kick it up a notch. The S Plus trims include a harman/kardon system with nine speakers a subwoofer and a 16-channel amplifier.
Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite of driver assistance tech features is standard equipment for the 2024 ID.4. And that feature set is the same across all trims except the overhead view camera. To get that, you have to go with an S Plus trim configuration.
All 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 compact SUVs include a maintenance program and a limited new vehicle warranty.
Providing scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles – whichever comes first. Plus 3 years or 36,000 miles of roadside assistance – whichever comes first. Also, a 4-year 50,000 mile, whichever comes first, new vehicle limited warranty. And 5 years of remote features through myVW App.

The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is the enthusiasts’ Jetta. It’s a compact four-door sedan that seats five. Aka the Golf GTI with a trunk.
And if you’re looking to drive with more power, tuned suspension, and overall sportiness. Then the GLI Jetta is for you. GLI stands for Grand Luxury Injection. And a little more background bit for you. Volkswagen introduced the Jetta to the US market in 1980. Then they followed with the Jetta GLI in 1984.
⇒ iDriveSoCal’s VW Dealer Is Ontario Volkswagen
The biggest news for 2024 GLI is that the enthusiast model is being offered in two different trims. There’s the 40th Anniversary and the Autobahn.
GLI now includes Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive driver assistance technology on all automatic transmission models. And that’s now standard. Also new for the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is a nicety on the Autobahn models. Because they now come with a heated steering wheel standard.
228 hp & 258 lb-ft of torque
For 2024 the VW Jetta GLI is coming in two different trims. You have the option of the Autobahn or the 40th Anniversary Edition.
It’s worth noting that the 40th Anniversary Edition GLI costs slightly less than the top-of-the-line non-GLI Jetta for 2024.
Under the hood is where you’ll find a big differentiator between the Jetta and Jetta GLI.
Because the GLI comes with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with 16 valves. It’s turbocharged and intercooled. Putting out 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That’s a big step up from its more tame sibling. The non-GLI Jetta offers a 1.5L 4-cylinder putting out 158 hp with 184 lb-ft of torque.
GLI comes only in front-wheel drive. But automatic or manual transmission is being offered on both GLI trims for 2024. The manual transmission is standard equipment on both trim options. And the automatic transmission upgrades to a seven-speed dual-clutch.
MPG with the manual is being estimated at 24/35/28 – city/highway/combined. And with automatic transmission GLI’s estimated MPG bumps up to 26/36/30 for the same.
7-speed automatic or 6-speed manual trans
The Volkswagen Jetta GLI continues its athletic and sporty appearance. Immediately recognizable are the red GLI badging and accents. But if you miss the VW badge, you might easily mistake GLI for an Audi. And being the brand’s luxury brethren, that makes sense.
Curiously Volkswagen groups the GLI and Jetta in the materials it shares with the automotive press. However, the engine, suspension and, appearance are all different when comparing the two. Even the exterior dimensions differ – albeit slightly.
Exterior dimensions:
*All inches
Going inside the 2024 Jetta GLI you find the sporty accents continued. Red GLI branded highlights and stitching adorn the gear shift column, seats, and more. The stainless steel pedal covers further the sporty motif. Plus 40th Anniversary Edition trims get a special steering wheel and seat tags. A common signature differentiator VW adds to various trims and models.
Controlling both trims for 2024 is a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The automatic transmission, of course, includes paddle shifters for taking control of the RPMs.
Also coming with GLI is either an aluminum or leather gearshift knob. Aluminum comes with the standard manual transmission. And leather comes with the manual trans.
Heated front seats come on both trims. But if you want them ventilated as well then you have to go with the Autobahn trim.
Interior dimensions:

Jetta’s overall passenger volume comes in at 95.7 cubic feet. While its trunk space checks in at 14.1 cu-ft.
Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro – standard
VW’s Digital Cockpit Pro comes standard in both Jetta GLI trims for 2024. Replacing old-school analog instrumentation with an in-dash digital monitor. That monitor interfaces with a 10.25-inch touchscreen topping the center stack. Giving your driving experience more connectivity and customization.
The 40th Anniversary Edition GLI comes with a lower-level 4-speaker sound system. But opting for the Autobahn trim brings you more audible enjoyment with a 400-watt BeatsAudio system. That includes 8 speakers and a subwoofer.
Wireless app connectivity and wireless charging are both standard on GLI. Along with 10-color ambient interior lighting. That’s just sort of a cool novelty. But nice for when you feel like adjusting the mood.
Also standard on Jetta GLI is Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive. It’s a suite of driver assistance features. Including blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, rear traffic alert, forward collision warning, and the like. Plus adaptive cruise control, intelligent crash response system and more.
All 2024 Jetta GLIs include a maintenance program and a limited new vehicle warranty.

The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta carries on the legacy of stylish, fun-to-drive, and practical affordability.
Setting it apart from all its non-luxury in-class competitors is merely the fact that it’s a German car affordable to any American. Jetta’s are immediately recognizable to most drivers, especially 30 years and older. Because it’s been Volkswagen’s top seller for more than four decades.
⇒ iDriveSoCal’s VW Dealer Is Ontario Volkswagen
Being refreshed in 2022 the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta continues its Euro-stylish-ness. All Jetta’s are now receiving the German carmakers IQ.Drive driver assistance feature suite standard. Base-model S trims receive an eco-leather trimmed steering wheel plus a gearshift knob. Also rain-sensing wiper technology. Additionally, Sport-trimmed Jetta’s now receive heated front seats.
158 hp & 184 lb-ft of torque
Volkswagen likes to group Jetta and its more sporty brethren Jetta GLI in its literature. However here at iDSC, we prefer to separate the vehicles. Because there are several differences that we feel are significant enough to warrant the separation.
So throughout this article, we’re just talking about the Jetta. And for 2024 Volkswagen offers it in 4 trim configurations.
For 2024 VW’s Jetta keeps its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Intercooled and with 16 valves it’s delivering 158 horsepower with 184 pound-feet of torque.
Front-wheel drive is the only way Jetta comes. But you have your choice of manual or automatic transmission. Which, for many drivers, just the idea of three-pedal driving delivers a sense of enjoyment. Even if you decide to go with the automatic trans.
The manual transmission option is a 6-speed. While the more commonly accessed automatic trans is providing eight gears.
Either way, Jetta delivers solid fuel economy. Depending on your trim and transmission configuration. Jetta is rated, at the high end, of using 29 miles per gallon in the city. (That’s with a manual transmission, automatic actually rates better at 30 mpg.) Then in the best scenario, Jetta sips as little as 41 mpg on the highway. Combined it’s between 33 and 34 mpg.
The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta appears bigger than its compact sedan designation. And being refreshed in model year 2022 Jetta hasn’t changed much from the past two model years. Jetta enjoys a comfortably athletic stance with sleek lines.
Since Jetta was the top-selling Volkswagen for more than forty years. It’s quintessentially VW to almost anyone 30 years or older.

Standard – VW Digital Cockpit
Jetta is a compact sedan that seats up to five passengers.
Both the S and Sport trims deliver cloth seating surfaces. While the SE trim gives you leatherette seating surfaces.
For real leather seating surfaces you need to bump up to the top-trimmed SEL model. But that also gives you standard ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel. Plus 10-color ambient lighting. Heated front seats come with the SE and SEL. But only the SEL gives you heated back seats.
Accent stitching on the gearshift knob and steering wheel is included with the SE and SEL trims. But only the top-trim SEL additionally comes with interior accent stitching that’s not available on lower trim levels.
A six-way power seat comes with the SE while the SEL gets an 8-way power seat with memory.
Interior dimensions:
*All inches
Jetta’s overall passenger volume comes in at 95.7 cubic feet. While its trunk space checks in at 14.1 cu-ft.
41.1″ legroom front, 37.4″ rear
Volkswagen’s digital cockpit comes standard across all Jetta trims in 2024. But you need to go with the top-trimmed SEL to get the Digital Cockpit Pro edition. That comes with a 10.25-inch display whereas the standard issue version comes with an 8.0-inch display.
Bumping up to the top-trimmed SEL also delivers an 8-speaker BeatsAudio system with a subwoofer, wireless app-connect, and wireless charging.
When it comes to climate control inside Jetta, both the SE and SEL trims include dual-zone automatic. Also, both include remote start functionality.
Volkswagens IQ.Drive is standard in all Jetta trims. As are most other safety and driver assistance features. So when it comes to deciding which Jetta trim you want to go with, you probably want to consider other feature categories. Because Jetta trims are all quite similar with safety and driver assistance technologies.
All 2024 Jettas include a maintenance program and a limited new vehicle warranty.

The 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport gets a big refresh. Especially being felt inside the midsize 5-passenger sport utility vehicle, behind the wheel, and within enhanced technology offerings.
Arguably the best-looking Volkswagen SUV since the Touareg. Cross Sport continues delivering exceptional great looks, especially for its price-point. New powertrain, technology, and creature comforts are really where the 2024 Atlas Cross Sport’s refresh is focusing.
iDSC is driven by Ontario Volkswagen
269 hp & 273 lb-ft of torque
Differing from years passed. VW Atlas Cross Sport is now being offered with a single powertrain. It’s a new, efficient, and spirited turbo-charged four-cylinder replaying the previous 4 and 6-cylinder options.
New creature comforts are now standard. Including ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and new cabin climate control – VW’s Climatronic. Plus upgraded interior materials and design.
For 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is offered in 5 distinct trim configurations. With the SE options coming in both FWD and AWD. While the SEL options are fitted with AWD exclusively.
No matter the trim configuration, all 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sports have a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder – turbocharged 16 valve. Putting out 269 horsepower with 273 lb-ft of torque. This increases both torque and acceleration from Cross Sport’s previous engine options.
The transmission is standard across trims as well. It’s a well-paired 8-speed automatic. Leaving you to decide whether you want a two-wheel or all-wheel drive Atlas Cross Sport. If two-wheel-drive is your pick then, it will be front-wheel drive. And AWD in VW-speak refers to 4Motion.
With these small differences, fuel economy differs only slightly as well. With FWD delivering 20/27/23 and AWD 19/26/22 – city/highway/combined.
Atlas Cross Sport weighs in with a curb weight of between 4,173 and 4,359 lbs – configuration depending. While it is capable of towing up to 5,000, regardless of configuration, with a braked trailer.
6.3-inch ground clearance
Depending on your trim configuration, Atlas Cross Sport appears European and athletic. Or elegant and European. Also a blend of both elegant and athletic. It’s Volkswagen for sure. And just great looking. With VW sharing DNA with both Audi and Lamborghini Atlas Cross Sport is currently illustrating that lineage best. Because silhouettes of VW’s Atlas Cross Sport, Audi’s Q8, and Lamborghini’s Urus are very similar.
And beyond a great aesthetic footprint, Cross Sport’s proportions are super-appealing.
*All inches – FWD/AWD
41.7″ front/40.4″ rear legroom
The two-row five-passenger sport-ute delivers great looks, and feels, inside. This year’s refresh delivers upgraded interior materials and elegant design enhancements. Volkswagen’s legendary fit and finish continue to shine through and to no one’s surprise.
Lots of automakers are going the route of minimizing vehicle shifting controls. And in the above picture, you can see VW’s iteration of that. Going with what looks and feels like a large switch is what luxury automakers, like BMW, are doing. We’re not sure if we love it. But it’s cool in the sense of it being different and innovative.
Cross Sports spaciousness is something to relish. Not only is the use of space smart and ergonomic but joyously plentiful. And that’s not an overstatement. Especially for backseat passengers who enjoy nearly as much legroom as those in the front seats! The front seat legroom is 41.7″ and the backseat is 40.4″.
*All inches
Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit Pro is standard across all 2024 Atlas Cross Sport trims. Replacing the old-school in-dash analog gauges with a 10.25-inch display. That interfaces with the 12.0-inch touchscreen and allows drivers to customize their view and save their profile for easy future access.
Another favorite driver-focused feature, coming standard on all SEL variations is a head-up display. Plus it has a dynamic road sign displaying right next to your current speed. And it’s impressively clear – even in bright daylight driving.
Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive is standard across all 2024 Cross Sport trims. Including front assist, active side assist, rear traffic alert, and adaptive cruise with stop and go. Plus lane assist, travel assist, and emergency assist.
Additional driver assistance and safety features are included as standard equipment as you increase in trim.
All 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sports include a maintenance program and a limited new vehicle warranty.
Providing scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles – whichever comes first. Plus 3 years or 36,000 miles of roadside assistance – whichever comes first. With an optional third row of seating, you can accommodate up to 7 people. Plus sporty to classy trim profiles. And loaded with technology while delivering VW’s legendary fit and finish. Tiguan is a must-test drive for compact SUV shoppers. And that’s whether you’re looking for a high-line or non-luxury vehicle.
⇒ iDriveSoCal’s VW Dealer Is Ontario Volkswagen
The 2024 VW Tiguan gets aesthetic enhancements. Plus technology upgrades.
All trim levels are now getting Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive driver assistance technology. And base model S trims receive a leatherette-styled steering wheel along with rain-sensing wipers. Also an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
184 hp/221 lb-ft of torque
Tiguan is being offered in four trim configurations for 2024. With MSRPs starting just under $30k for the base model S and topping out just under $40k for the top-of-the-line SEL R-Line.
If you’re wondering which to go with, we like the top two trims. The SE R-Line Black saves a few bucks while delivering sweet styling. But the SEL R-Line, if it fits your budget, is our preference. While it’s slightly less sporty-style-leaning. It delivers a more classy/executive look. While also coming packed with all the features available.
Volkswagen is keeping the 2024 Tiguan straightforward in the powertrain department. Offering a single engine with two optional drives. It’s a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder. Turbocharged with 16 valves it puts out 184 horsepower with 221 pound-feet of torque.
The same spirited eight-speed automatic transmission is included. But your drive options are two-fold. There’s front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. And in Volkswagen-speak AWD is referred to as 4Motion.
Overall Tiguan brings solid fuel economy. With slight variations depending on your trim and drivetrain. Combined fuel economy comes in between 24 to 27 mpg. City gas mileage is estimated at 22 to 24 mpg. And highway 29 to 31 mpg. So the entire 202 4 VW Tiguan trim lineup mpg is estimated between 22 and 31 mpg.
184 hp & 221 lb-ft of torque
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan weighs in at 3,732 pounds in FWD. Weighing a bit more when factoring AWD/4Motion. That’s when it comes in at 3,818 lbs.
And Tiguan’s towing capacity maxes out at 1,500 lbs. Giving you the ability to haul a couple of average-sized personal watercraft, with a braked trailer.
Tiguan looks sporty, stylish, capable, classy and European. Above all its look is Volkswagen.
But it depends on the trim that you go with. For example, the SE R-Line Black looks more youthful and sporty. Whereas the SEL R-Line has a more classy and refined appearance.

VW Digital Cockpit Standard
Spending time inside Tiguan is a pleasure. Because Volkswagen’s fit and finish details are seen and felt throughout the vehicle.
From the great use of space to the joints where various panels come together. Notable inside Tiguan is the ample legroom for both front and second-row passengers. Because at 40.2 and 38.7 inches, Tiguan’s legroom, as a compact SUV, rivals that of some midsize SUVs.
Furthermore, Tiguan’s offering of a third row of seating in a compact SUV is an uncommon option. Attracting many families to the versatility of having that third-row option. For sure it’s sized for kids. But having the option can make all the difference.
Interior dimensions:
*All inches
With Tiguan’s optional third row of seating, its available cargo space varies. That plus whether you go with FWD or AWD.
So with both the second and third rows of seats in use, you have 12 cubic feet of cargo area. Then with only the second row in use, there’s 33.0 to 37.6 cu ft. Or you can fold both rows of backseats down and enjoy 65.3 to 73.4 cu ft.
Up to 73.4 cu-ft of cargo space
Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit is standard throughout the entire 2024 Tiguan lineup. And when you go with the top-trimmed SEL R-Line that bumps up to Digital Cockpit Pro with extended features including a 10.25-inch touchscreen.
Wireless app connect, wireless charging, and voice control come on all but the base model S. And when it comes to audio, the standard 6-speaker system works great. But enticing you to go with that top trim is a 9-speaker Fender premium system taking your listening experience up a few notches.
And VW’s IQ.Drive suite of tech and safety features comes standard throughout all trims. But here again, Volkswagen entices buyers with extra features at the SEL R-Line trim level.
Plus Volkswagen’s myVW App is standard across all trims. Its former name was Car-Net. Empowering you to keep connected to your Tiguan even when you’re physically separated.
All 2024 Tiguans include a maintenance program and a limited new vehicle warranty.
Providing scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles – whichever comes first. Plus 3 years or 36,000 miles of roadside assistance – whichever comes first. The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas enjoys a major refresh. And with a focus on the interior and creature comforts. It’s easier to compare this VW to its luxury brand sibling – Audi.
Further advancing this midsize three-row SUV’s value proposition is more standard features. A new more potent engine. And a new timeline.
⇒ Ontario Volkswagen is an iDriveSoCal Official VW Dealer
Adding up to an overall package that pushes the boundaries of luxury vehicles while still being priced affordably.
Features being added as standard equipment include creature comforts. Ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and VW’s IQ.Drive. That’s Volkswagen’s suite of driver assistance technology.
Plus VW simplifies it’s powertrain options by scaling down to one engine. Previously, Atlas offered a four-cylinder and a V6. The new engine delivers better acceleration than both its predecessors. Plus better fuel economy than the six-cylinder.
VW Digital Cockpit Pro – standard
With the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas model year comes six different trim configurations.
Starting with the base model SE trim with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price starting at $37,725. And the top Atlas trim for 2024 is the SEL Premium R-Line. That has a starting MSRP of $52,455.
The 2024 Atlas delivers drivetrain options of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. And considering the engine is the same across the entire line-up, the fuel economy will vary slightly. Based on FWD or AWD. Volkswagen refers to its AWD system as 4Motion.
The engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with 16 valves and turbocharged/intercooled TSI. Putting out 269 horsepower and 273-pound feet of torque.
Of the six different trim options front-wheel drive is only offered on the two entry-level 2024 Atlases. So that’s the SE and the SE with Technology. Either of those comes in FWD or 4Motion. But each upline trim is offered only with 4Motion.
EPA estimates for the 2024 VW Atlas vary slightly. By trim and AWD or FWD.
The front-wheel drive version will give you 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway for a combined 23 mpg.
The AWD/4Motion Atlases come in between 18 to 19 mpg in the city and 24 to 26 mpg on the highway for a combined 20 to 22 mpg.
The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas curb weight depends on configuration a bit. But the big factor is FWD or 4Motion.
So, the 4Motion Atlas is a bit heavier with a curb weight of 4,517 pounds. Whereas the FWD Atlas weighs in at 4,343 lbs.
When it comes time to drag your stuff around Atlas is capable. Though it’s more commonly being used as a hauler of people.
The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas can tow up to 5,000 lbs, with a braked trailer. Rather than one without brakes.
269 hp 273 lb-ft of torque
Aside from the newly added rugged-looking Peak Edition, the 2024 Atlas looks nearly identical to its last model year.
And that’s unmistakably Volkswagen. But bold and athletic. All the more so with the Peak Edition. With a more off-road and outdoorsy feel to its design accents.
Depending on the trim you roll with. Atlas has a sharp selection of wheel options. Ranging in size from 18-inch 5-spoke machined alloys which come standard on the base SE model. Up to the SEL Premium R-Line sporting 21-inch two-tone machined alloys.
And size-wise Atlas is really everything you want in a 3-row midsize SUV. Looks big on the outside. Feels big on the inside. But drives smaller, more agile, and easily slides in and out of tight spaces.
Exterior dimensions:
*All inches
Atlas is slightly larger than its Volkswagen sibling SUV. The similarly named Atlas Cross Sport.
Whereas the Atlas 3-row midsize. The Atlas Cross Sport is a 2-row midsize SUV.
The exterior difference is apparent when looking at the profile of the vehicle. Because Cross Sport has a sloping rear roofline.
Inside the 2024 Atlas is where the refresh is really apparent. Because there’s a new highly scaled-down shifter on the center stack. You could almost call it a large switch. And it pairs with a push button for entering park mode.
The center stack is cleanly designed. Dominated by a large touchscreen that controls climate and much more. It’s a 12-inch touchscreen across all trims.
Also, under the center stack is a great open storage space. Easily accessible from the cockpit or front passenger seating position.
We spend the most time with the interior of our vehicles. And that’s where Volkswagen’s legendary fit and finish shine. Especially with this newly redesigned Atlas interior.
It’s big and spacious inside. Quality feels to the touch surfaces. A flat-bottom steering wheel that’s heated but also has paddle shifters – again, across all trims.
And with three rows of seating, precise German engineering comes in extra handy. Because opening access to the third row of seats means flipping and stowing the 2-second row. Quickly and temporarily. And you can do that with ease in Atlas.
Interior dimensions:
*All inches
With three rows you have many seating and cargo configuration options you can go with.
But with both rows of back seats in use, you have a minimum of 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space. Then collapsing the third row gives you 53.5 cu-ft. Additionally both the second and third rows of seating have up to 61.3 cu-ft of space.
Additionally notable, Volkswagen offers a huge panoramic sunroof. Another feature to note inside is that the top SEL Premium R-Line trim includes heated and ventilated front seats. Plus heated rear outboard seats.
Customizable 10.25-inch in-dash digital display
Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit Pro is standard across all 2024 Atlas trims.
Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive is standard across all 2024 Atlas trims. Including front assist, active side assist, rear traffic alert, and adaptive cruise with stop and go. Plus lane assist, travel assist, and emergency assist.
Additional driver assistance and safety features are included as standard equipment as you increase in trim.
Midsize three-row SUV
All 2024 Atlases include a maintenance program and limited new vehicle warranty.
Providing scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles. Whichever comes first. And if still in force this can be transferred to a subsequent owner.
The limited new vehicle warranty can also be transferred to a subsequent owner during its duration. It offers bumper-to-bumper coverage for the first four years or 50,000 miles – whichever comes first.

The 2023 Volkswagen Golf R is the hottest hatch driving the German carmaker’s lineup.
Taking the original hot hatch, the VW GTI, to the next level. All-wheel drive performance including drift mode. Golf R is ready to be taken to the nearest track – straight from the dealer lot. However, we do suggest breaking in the motor before getting too crazy. But you get the idea.
⇒ Ontario VW is iDriveSoCal’s Volkswagen Dealer
On the practical side, it seats four and delivers cargo space to boot. But the automotive enthusiast is this ride’s primary target.
315 hp w/ drift mode
While the Golf nameplate is in its 8th generation, aka Mk8 in VW-speak. Delivering the 5th iteration of the Golf ‘R’ was completely redesigned for 2022.
So the 2023 Volkswagen Golf R is similar to 2022. With the big new offering being a limited edition 20th Anniversary Edition Golf R.
The 2023 Volkswagen Golf R is rolling in two different trim options. They’re both quite similar in everything but cosmetic detail.
Which is something that Volkswagen is known for doing with their various nameplates and model years. But the cool thing is, down the line in your ownership of the vehicle. Those special anniversary editions can attract better resale values over time.
Focusing on performance, as the Golf R always does, there’s a single powerplant under the hood. Regardless of the trim.
It’s a powerful 2.0-liter inline turbocharged/intercooled TSI four-cylinder. Cranking out 315 horsepower and either 280 or 295 pound-feet of torque. What’s the difference? Transmission.
The 2023 VW Golf R’s torque depends on the transmission you go with. Because manual transmission delivers 280 lb-ft of torque. While the automatic transmission bumps up to the 295 lb-ft.
Which to go with? When it comes to automatic versus manual. Our preference, and most who really love driving, go with manual transmission. But the Golf R has practical applications. So, you might want to go automatic. For example; if you’re planning to sit in traffic congestion with any type of regularity. Then you might want to lean toward automatic.
With 315 hp and at least 280 lb-ft of torque you’re packing power and ability to perform. But you get more to help that cause.
Including R-Performance 4MOTION all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. Optional driving modes include drift! Variable-ratio electro-mechanical power steering. Four-wheel independent suspension.
Plus stopping power to match the power to get you going. That’s vented front disc brakes. With two-piece cross-drilled rotors. And vented rear disc brakes.
Automatic or manual transmission
While fuel economy probably isn’t a top consideration for most Golf R shoppers. Buyers can rest assured that they’re getting solid fuel efficiency. Along with killer performance. So if you’re looking for reasons to justify the Golf R. Great MPG is a reason to add in your plus column!

When it comes to the curb weight of the 2023 Volkswagen Golf R, she’s on the lighter side of passenger vehicles. Which is what you’d expect from a smaller sportier car. But there are many small cars that are lighter.
Depending on your configuration there’s a difference. Manual transmission weighs in at 3,404 pounds. And automatic trans bumps up to 3,481 lbs.
Heads-up display – standard
The 2023 Golf R looks nearly exactly like the last model year. Except for the 20th Anniversary Edition. Which has special badging and tagging inside and out.
But generally, it’s a bold and beautiful four-door hatchback. Athletic and sitting low to the ground. With a wider-looking stance in front than in the back. However, that rear stance optically deceives due to the hatchback roofline. Which ends at a much higher point than a sedan or fastback roofline.

A sporty cockpit focusing on the driver’s experience highlights the interior of the 2023 VW Golf R.
Normally we comment on Volkswagen’s attention to detail in the two ‘f’s.’ That’s the fit and finish. It’s especially noted in the Golf R but we’ll add one more ‘f’ – fun. Because just looking inside the Golf R makes you want to get behind the wheel and go.
Ambient lighting accenting is adjustable but the cool blue we find most pleasing. And that’s both functional and a bit just for fun too.
Nappa leather seating surfaces and wrapped steering wheel help keep things cool too.

And inside is also where the practicality of the Golf R comes into play. Because it’s performance-focused for sure. But with four doors and cargo space, it’s a family car too!
With the rear seats folded down, the Golf R delivers 34.5 cubic feet of cargo space. And even when the rear seats are in use there’s 19.9 cu-ft to work with.
Digital Cockpit Pro – standard
And when it comes to tech features, the Golf R shines with a slew of fun stuff standard. Starting with the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro. Which includes a 10.23-inch instrument display. With a setting that can be configured to your liking and saved in numerous profiles.
Wireless smartphone connectivity and charging. Heads-up display for serious driving and keeping your eyes glued through the windshield.
Plus Volkswagen’s connected car application – Car-Net is included. With 5 years of free service.
The Golf R is referred to by Volkswagen as its halo performance vehicle. It makes sense that all the driver assistance and safety features are being packed in as standard.
Including Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive, front assist with emergency braking. Blindspot monitoring, adaptive cruise, automatic post-collision braking. Also, dynamic road sign display, park distance control, lane keep assist, and a lot more.

Volkswagen includes two years, or 20,000 miles, of scheduled maintenance with every Golf R. Additionally three years, or 36,000 miles, or roadside assistance. Along with four years, or 50,000 miles, of its limited new vehicle warranty.

As its flagship sedan, the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon checks all the boxes – and then some. Because the midsize Arteon delivers styling and features normally found only in luxury branded vehicles. Topping that with Arteon’s recently increased engine size, horsepower, and performance. You have a hard-to-resist driving experience for anyone shopping for a midsize sedan.
And that’s whether you’re considering a sports sedan, luxury, or reasonably practical yet stylish daily driver.
⇒ Check out Ontario VW Arteon Inventory
For 2023 VW is giving Arteon a few new aspects. But this is after the big improvement from 2022 and that was the increased 300 hp engine.
Niceties being added for 2023 are mostly cosmetic. Although functional as well. Including lower trims receiving LED headlights, front foglights, and an adaptive front cornering light system. Also a cool illuminated light bar on the front grille. Plus a heated steering wheel, and a dynamic road sign display.
Bumping up to the top trim, the SEL Premium R-Line, cool 20-inch wheels replace the formerly standard 19s. With coolness inside as well. Including a black carbon trim interior and ambient lighting complete with 30 different color options.
300hp/295 lb-ft of torque
The 2023 Volkswagen Arteon comes in three trim options. And these are the same trims offered last year. With starting prices ticking up slightly on the lower two trims. While the top trim’s factory suggested starting price comes down slightly.
Keeping it simple in the engine and transmission department, VW is offering a single engine and transmissions. But two options for the drivetrain.
We’re loving the engine. It’s a quick 2.0L inline four-cylinder. Turbocharged with 16 valves, putting out 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. And this leaves you the option of front-wheel drive or VW’s all-wheel drive, 4Motion. Then interfacing with both of those is a 7-speed automatic transmission.
So, which drivetrain to go with you ask? We don’t really have a strong opinion either way. Because we like them both, plenty. Front-wheel drive is a bit more fuel efficient while feeling and being plenty sturdy under the driver. Whereas 4Motion is a bit more sturdy under the driver.
If we had to choose, we’d go AWD. But we’d be happy to have either one in the driveway.
With the same engine and transmission, Arteon’s fuel economy ratings are similar to one another. So when it comes to real-world mpg you’re hardly going to notice a difference.
MPG Ratings
*City/combined/highway
Arteon’s curb weight fluctuates depending on the configuration. FWD delivers a curb weight of 3,677 lbs. While the AWD/4Motion version weighs in at 3,929 lbs.
Length 191.5/wheelbase 111.9/width 73.7 – inches
Style is a leading factor in Arteon’s appeal. Aesthetically, the midsize gran turismo styling of Arteon is distinctly European. While it also closely affiliates the look of its much pricier Audi luxury brand.
Every trim option is beautiful, bold, and classy. But sporty too. And depending on your Arteon’s configuration you can lean into any of the aforementioned styles. Sweeping lines, a bold stance, and appealing curves. Arteon looks every bit the flagship that it’s intended to represent.

Volkswagen holds little back with Arteon’s interior. Delivering the brand’s legendary fit and finish comes automatically. Adding a great use of space, creature comforts, and styling emphasizes its flagship status. Haptic touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel and in the center stack. Manage tri-zone cabin climate. Even backseat passengers have the availability to adjust their climate.
Standard 12-way, heated front seats with leatherette surfaces. Leather seating plus both heated and ventilated front seats are available. Also available is heated rear outboard seating. Even massaging seats are being announced for Arteon although VW’s stating ‘later availability’ on that feature.

With Arteon being a hatchback the cargo capacity is an extra added selling point. Because there’s ample room for your stuff. With the backseats up and in use Arteon provides 27.2 cubic feet of storage space. Folding the backseats down delivers 56.2 cu-ft of storage.
Digital Cockpit Pro – standard
Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit Pro is standard across all 2023 Arteon trims. Replacing in-dash analog instrumentation with a monitor that can be configured for the driver’s preferences. Including the ability to save multiple driver profiles. Also standard throughout Arteon configurations is wireless app-connect, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless charging, voice control, and an 8-speaker sound system. When going with the SEL Premium R-Line trim a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system is added.
Being the flagship sedan, Arteon is packed with the latest driver assistance and safety technology VW offers.
Including forward collision warning and emergency braking with pedestrian monitoring. Blindspot monitoring, rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise, lane assist, and more. Even parking steering assist is available as well as overhead head camera tech.
For the full reporting on Arteon’s results in crash testing go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. Also, refer to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website.
Volkswagen includes two years, or 20,000 miles, of scheduled maintenance with every Taos. Additionally three years, or 36,000 miles, or roadside assistance. Along with four years, or 50,000 miles, of its limited new vehicle warranty.

The 2023 Volkswagen Taos rolls into its second model year. And maybe it’s just us. Because we’re paying close attention. But it feels like the subcompact five-seat crossover SUV has been around longer.
Sporty and bold. Classy and sophisticated. Affordable and practical. These are all accurate descriptions of VW’s smallest available SUV.
⇒ Check out Ontario VW Taos Inventory
Subcompact 5-seat crossover SUV
Taos comes in three trims and each one of them gets more content for 2023. Coming standard across all trims is VW’s front assist, blind spot monitor, and rear traffic alert. The S trim, the base model with 4Motion, gets 18-inch wheels. While the SE trim receives driver assistance tech standard – VW’s IQ.Drive. And the top trimmed SEL gets a standard panoramic sunroof added.
We continue loving Volkswagen’s straightforward trims and pricing. Sure you can still spec out your Taos how you like. But Volkswagen has a habit of thoughtfully adding features to each trim level. And in a logical fashion.
Keeping it easy and straightforward. Volkswagen plants the same power into each Taos. And with similar transmissions.
It’s a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. Putting out 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
For the transmissions, they’re both smoothing shifting automatics. The front-wheel drive Taos gets an 8-speed automatic. And the all-wheel-drive gets a 7-speed auto.
So that leaves you with the decision of FWD or AWD. And in the case of Volkswagen, AWD is called 4Motion.
Taos delivers the expected and respectable fuel economy for an internal combustion engine subcompact crossover SUV. With EPA ratings between 25 and 32 mpg.
MPG Rating
*City/combined/highway
The curb weight for the 2023 Volkswagen Taos depends on your configuration. But it’s coming in between 3,181 and 3,437 lbs.
158 hp/184 lb-ft torque
Taos looks unmistakably like a European crossover SUV. And like the rest of the Volkswagen crossover sport-ute lineup, a quick glance can be deceiving. Because that can and does leave you thinking Audi. This is a nice compliment because that’s Volkswagen’s luxury sibling. And always costs an easy 30% more across all comparisons – minimum.
With that said the 2023 Volkswagen Taos looks like a small Volkswagen crossover sport-ute. Because, like almost every carmaker these days, the SUVs they’re making are small, medium, and large versions of one another. And in some cases, both extra small and extra large too.
Exterior dimensions
*All inches
Taos seats up to 5 passengers in its two rows of seating. And inside Taos is where Volkswagen’s engineering is often most appreciated. Because that’s when drivers and passengers are closest to it. And for the longest periods of time. So unlike gazing at the outside, we get to experience the inside to a much greater degree.
And VW’s fit and finish are remarkable. Even in the subcompact Taos. From the materials being used to the intersections of them, it’s reliably solid.
For example, even the inside of the center console of the Taos we test-drove had a smooth finish with quality materials. And that is attention to detail we love.
Interior dimensions
*All inches front/rear
Cargo volume for the 2023 VW Taos comes in at a highly respectable 27.9 cubic feet with the backseats up. And folding those backseats down delivers 65.9 cu ft. Plenty of space for all your stuff in this subcompact crossover sport-ute.
SE trim interior – black leatherette & cloth
Leading Taos in its technology department is Volkswagen’s digital cockpit. Replacing traditional in-dash analog instrumentation, it takes your driving experience to the next level. And it’s standard across all three trims. However Digital Cockpit Pro rolls only in the top-trim SEL version. And that includes all the configuration capabilities plus a bump up from an 8-inch to a 10″ center stack display.
Wireless app connections are standard only on the top two trims – SE and SEL. But well worth it in our opinion. And if you’re an audiophile you might want to go with the SEL trim. Because that gets you BeatsAudio premium sound with 8 speakers. Whereas the SE and S trims are delivering 6 and 4 speakers respectively.
Up to 36 mpg
Volkswagen is including and offering many driver assistance and safety features that are becoming the norm for carmakers. Such as blind spot monitoring, parking distance control, light assist, and dynamic road sign display. But also rear traffic alert, front assist, emergency and travel assistance, and more.
For the full reporting on Tao’s results in crash testing go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
