The Media Commission is "very concerned" about the RTÉ controversy.
"An-imní" ar Choimisiún na Meán faoi chonspóid RTÉ.
The executive chairman of the Media Commission, Jeremy Godfrey, has indicated that he is very concerned about the controversy surrounding certain payments and governance matters in RTÉ.
Tá sé tugtha le fios ag cathaoirleach feidhmiúcháin Choimisiún na Meán Jeremy Godfrey go bhfuil an-imní air faoin gconspóid a bhaineann le híocaíochtaí áirithe agus cúrsaí rialachais in RTÉ.
Since it emerged a fortnight ago that presenter Ryan Tubridy was given payments that were not publicly announced as they should have been, there has been a bee carta's nest in the organisation.
Ó tháinig sé chun solais corradh le coicís ó shin gur tugadh íocaíochtaí don láithreoir Ryan Tubridy nár fógraíodh go poiblí mar ba chóir, tá nead beach carta san eagraíocht.
The Media Commission was established four months ago and oversees broadcasting and video-on-demand services in the State.
Bunaíodh Coimisiún na Meán ceithre mhí ó shin agus is é a dhéanann maoirseacht ar chúrsaí craolacháin agus ar sheirbhísí físeán ar éileamh sa Stát.
Before that, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland was responsible for these matters.
Roimhe sin, ba é Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann a bhí freagrach as na cúrsaí sin.
Speaking on RTÉ radio this morning, Jeremy Godfrey declared that the Media Commission has a specific statutory duty to keep track from year to year of the commitments made by RTÉ and how they are fulfilled, if they are fulfilled.
Ag labhairt dó ar raidió RTÉ ar maidin inniu, dhearbhaigh Jeremy Godfrey go bhfuil dualgas reachtúil faoi leith ar Choimisiún na Meán súil a choinneáil ó bhliain go bliain ar na gealltanais a thugann RTÉ agus cé mar a chomhlíontar iad, má chomhlíontar.
Public participation in the decisions made by RTÉ is one of those commitments, says Jeremy Godfrey, and another is to strengthen and secure public service broadcasting.
Rannpháirtíocht an phobail sna cinntí a dhéanann RTÉ is ea ceann de na gealltanais sin, arsa Jeremy Godfrey, agus ceann eile acu is ea an chraoltóireacht seirbhíse poiblí a neartú agus a dhaingniú.
As part of that last commitment, he said, RTÉ must be open, accountable in the affairs of the organization and be both effective and efficient in those affairs.
Mar chuid den ghealltanas deireanach sin, ar sé, ní mór do RTÉ a bheith oscailte, cuntas a thabhairt i ngnóthaí na heagraíochta agus a bheith éifeachtach agus éifeachtúil araon sna gnóthaí sin.
However, he claimed that all those things have been cast in doubt by what has been revealed recently.
Mhaígh sé, áfach, go bhfuil amhras caite ar na rudaí sin ar fad ag a bhfuil nochta le gairid.
Jeremy Godfrey also confirmed that the Media Commission will be reviewing RTÉ's effectiveness every year from now on.
Dhearbhaigh Jeremy Godfrey chomh maith go mbeidh Coimisiún na Meán ag déanamh athbhreithniú gach bliain feasta ar éifeachtacht RTÉ.
He said that the Commission will submit recommendations to the Minister of Media according to the annual reviews.
Dúirt sé go gcuirfidh an Coimisiún moltaí faoi bhráid an Aire Meán de réir a mbeidh sna hathbhreithnithe bliantúla.
If RTÉ fails, he said, the Commission will have to recommend to the Minister to look at the television license (from which RTÉ is funded) or the public will trust the organization again.
Má loiceann ar RTÉ, arsa sé, beidh ar an gCoimisiún moladh don Aire breathnú ar an gceadúnas teilfíse (as a maoinítear RTÉ) nó go mbeidh muinín ag an bpobal arís as an eagraíocht.
