2,000 pubs closed since 2005, 108 last year.
2,000 teach tábhairne dúnta ó 2005, 108 anuraidh.
Almost 2,000 pubs have closed in the State since 2005, says a new report from the drinks industry's umbrella organisation.
Tá beagnach 2,000 teach tábhairne dúnta sa Stát ó 2005, a deirtear i dtuarascáil úr ó scátheagraíocht ionadaíochta thionscal na dí.
That's 22.5% of all pubs in the State, according to the organisation.
Sin 22.5 faoin gcéad de thithe tábhairne uile an Stáit, de réir na heagraíochta.
The report also indicates that 450 pubs have closed since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic – 108 of them last year – and that they are based in rural houses.
Tugtar le fios sa tuarascáil freisin gur dhún 450 tábhairne ó thús na paindéime covid 19 – 108 acu anuraidh – agus gur tithe faoin tuath a mbunáite.
It highlights the top three counties in which pubs have closed in terms of percentage over the past eighteen years.
Soilsítear ann na trí chontae ba mhó ar dhún tithe tábhairne iontu ó thaobh céatadáin de le hocht mbliana déag.
32% of pubs in Limerick, 29.9% in Cork and 29.9% in Laois have closed since 2005.
Dhún 32 faoin gcéad de thithe tábhairne i Luimneach, 29.9 faoin gcéad i gCorcaigh agus 29.9 faoin gcéad i Laois ó 2005.
In addition, only 3.4% of pubs in Dublin closed.
Lena ais sin, níor dhún ach 3.4 faoin gcéad de thithe tábhairne i mBaile Átha Cliath.
The drinks industry is petitioning the Government to give more support to small local pubs and, above all, to drastically reduce the excise duty on alcohol.
Tá tionscal na dí ag achainí ar an Rialtas tuilleadh tacaíochta a thabhairt do thábhairní beaga áitiúla agus, thar aon ní eile, an dleacht mháil a ghearrtar ar alcól a laghdú gan spás.
It should be taken into account, they say, that rural communities suffer greatly economically and socially when local pubs close.
Ba chóir a chur san áireamh, a deir siad, go mbíonn pobail tuaithe thíos leis go mór go heacnamaíoch agus go sóisialta nuair a dhúnann tithe tábhairne áitiúla.
The situation affects many people - including employers, workers and suppliers - not to mention the tourism sector, says the drinks industry.
Téann an scéal i gcion ar a lán daoine – idir fhostóirí, oibrithe agus sholáthraithe – gan trácht ar lucht earnáil na turasóireachta, a deir tionscal na dí.
