Only two naval ships at the coast of Ireland.
Gan ach dhá long chabhlaigh ag coimhéad imeallbhord na hÉireann.
It has come to light that only two naval ships out of eight on patrol around the Irish seaboard are currently undermanned.
Tá sé tagtha chun solais nach bhfuil ach dhá long chabhlaigh as ocht gcinn ar patról thart ar bhorda na hÉireann faoi láthair de cheal foirne.
In a statement, the Naval Service confirmed that at the moment only those two ships are operating and that the third one is on standby.
I ráiteas, dhearbhaigh an tSeirbhís Chabhlaigh nach bhfuil ag feidhmiú i láthair na huaire ach an dá long úd agus go bhfuil an tríú ceann ar fuireachas.
The statement confirmed that this is how things will be from now until the end of the year because there are not enough human resources.
Deimhníodh sa ráiteas gur mar sin a bheas cúrsaí as seo go deireadh na bliana mar nach bhfuil dóthain acmhainní daonna ann.
It was pointed out that many people have left the Naval Service and that management is trying to recruit people with the appropriate credentials to replace them.
Tugadh le fios go bhfuil go leor daoine tar éis imeacht as an tSeirbhís Chabhlaigh agus go bhfuil sé ag dul rite leis an mbainistíocht daoine a bhfuil na dintiúir chuí acu a earcú ina n-áit.
So far this year, it was said, only 37 newcomers have joined the service.
Go nuige seo i mbliana, a dúradh, níor tháinig isteach sa tseirbhís ach 37 núíosach.
To make matters worse, only 28 people were recruited last year, it was said.
Dá dhonacht an scéal sin, níor earcaíodh ach 28 duine anuraidh, a dúradh.
Independent Dáil MP Cathal Berry, who served as a witness, said it is incredible and highly unusual that only a quarter of the Naval Service's fleet is operational, especially since Ireland is a maritime country.
Dúirt an Teachta Dála Neamhspleách Cathal Berry, a chaith seal ina fhianóglach, go bhfuil sé dochreidte agus thar a bheith neamhghnách nach bhfuil ach an ceathrú cuid de loingeas na Seirbhíse Cabhlaigh ag feidhmiú, go háirithe ós tír mhuirí í Éire.
According to the Bear the low pay in the Naval Service is the cause of the evil.
Dar leis an mBéarach gurb é an pá íseal sa tSeirbhís Chabhlaigh údar an oilc.
Speaking on RTÉ, he also drew attention to the lack of employment rights in the service and said that the workers are not even allowed to go under the protection of the Labor Court.
Ag labhairt dó ar RTÉ, tharraing sé aird chomh maith ar an easpa cearta fostaíochta sa tseirbhís agus dúirt nach bhfuil cead ag na hoibrithe dul ar choimirce na Cúirte Oibreachais, fiú.
He is very worried, he said, that smugglers will try to ride the tide and have a full code or the rest of the Naval Service fleet will be put to sea again.
Tá an-imní air, arsa sé, go bhféachfaidh lucht smuigleála leis an taoide a fhreastal agus go mbeidh lánscód acu nó go gcuirfear an chuid eile de loingeas na Seirbhíse Cabhlaigh chun farraige an athuair.
