This message from Acts 2 is significant for many reasons, but especially because we are teaching on Pentecost on the actual day of Pentecost. The word Pentecost simply means 50th day. It was originally used to refer to the Festival of Weeks or Shavuot. Leviticus 23:16 instructs people to count seven weeks or “50 days” from the end of Passover to the beginning of the next holiday.
It was originally a harvest festival (Ex 23:16), but, in time, turned into a day to commemorate the giving of the law on Mt. Sinai. Think about this; the giving of the law was REPLACED by the giving of the Spirit. Pentecost officially launched one of the greatest movements in history; it is time to do it again.
