What comes to your mind when you hear the word “Blessing”? Whether one is a Christ follower or not, most people probably think about blessing our food. While that’s important, that’s not the reason the word “Blessing” is used over 500 times in the Bible. This series will explore the many definitions of the word “Blessing,” but it’s most simple and straightforward definition, it means “to bestow good on one.”

Obviously, the frequency and meaning of the word “Blessing” says a lot of the One who blesses. Yet it is also important for us to know that as God’s children, He gives us the authority and ability to bless others. All of us want to receive blessings, but it is also vitally important for all of us to give blessings. 

First, a blessing was a public declaration of a favored status with God. Second, the blessing endowed power for prosperity and success. In all cases, the blessing served as a guide and motivation to pursue a course of life within the blessing. 

In this series, we will increase our understanding of God’s blessings, but we will also learn how to be givers of blessing. This is more than wishing or even more than prayers. This is learning how to hear the voice of God and act of God’s behalf to bless others. 

Lastly, it is a joy to receive blessings, but it is even a greater joy to give blessings.
