An internal case has been initiated regarding a single soldier.
Tús curtha le cás inmheánach maidir le saighdiúir singil.
The Defense Forces of Ireland have begun an internal case regarding a soldier who pleaded guilty to brutally assaulting a woman who was left unconscious and speechless as a result.
Tá tús curtha ag Óglaigh na hÉireann le cás inmheánach maidir le saighdiúir a phléadáil ciontach in ionsaí brúidiúil a dhéanamh ar bhean a fágadh gan aithne gan urlabhra dá bharr.
In a court in Limerick yesterday, Single Soldier Cathal Crotty, aged 22, was given a three-year suspended prison sentence for the attack.
I gcúirt i Luimneach inné, gearradh trí bliana príosúin ar fionraí ar an Saighdiúir Singil Cathal Crotty, 22 bliain d'aois, faoin ionsaí.
In a statement, the Defense Forces declared that the internal case could not be started or that the civil case in court was over.
I ráiteas, dhearbhaigh Óglaigh na hÉireann nár féadadh tús a chur leis an gcás inmheánach nó go raibh an cás sibhialta sa chúirt thart.
The statement said that the soldier's Commanding Officer now had "various options" according to the Defense Forces Regulations.
Dúradh sa ráiteas go raibh "roghanna éagsúla" anois ag Oifigeach Ceannais an tsaighdiúra de réir Rialacháin Óglaigh na hÉireann.
The statement praised the woman who was attacked by Cathal Crotty – Natasha O'Brien, aged 24 – for her courage and prayed for her.
Moladh sa ráiteas an bhean ar ionsaigh Cathal Crotty í – Natasha O'Brien, 24 bliain d'aois – as a mhisniúla a bhí sí agus guíodh biseach uirthi.
Natasha O'Brien said yesterday, however, that it was neither right nor fair to impose a suspended prison term on the soldier.
Dúirt Natasha O'Brien inné, ámh, nach raibh sé ceart ná cóir téarma príosúin ar fionraí a ghearradh ar an saighdiúir.
The court was told that Cathal Crotty, from Ardnacroise in Co Clare, attacked Natasha O'Brien on O'Connell Street in Limerick on 29 May 2022.
Dúradh sa chúirt gur ionsaigh Cathal Crotty, as Ard na Croise i gCo an Chláir, Natasha O'Brien ar Shráid Uí Chonaill i Luimneach ar an 29 Bealtaine 2022.
Cathal Crotty had spent the evening drinking and when he started shouting insults at people in the street Natasha O'Brien asked him to stop.
Bhí an tráthóna caite ag Cathal Crotty ag ól agus nuair a chuaigh sé ag caitheamh maslaí le daoine ar an tsráid in ard a ghutha d'iarr Natasha O'Brien air éirí as.
It was then that he attacked her and hit her at least six times.
Ba ansin a d'ionsaigh sé í agus bhuail í sé huaire ar a laghad.
When the Gardaí first arrested him he told them it was the woman who started the altercation but when he was shown video from security cameras which showed otherwise he pleaded guilty to the attack.
Nuair a ghabh na Gardaí é ar an gcéad dul síos dúirt sé leo gurbh í an bhean a thosaigh an t-achrann ach nuair a taispeánadh físeán ó cheamaraí slándála dó a léirigh a mhalairt phléadáil sé ciontach san ionsaí.
It was also said that the soldier was complaining about the attack on the social media Snapchat.
Dúradh freisin go raibh an saighdiúir ag maíomh as an ionsaí ar an meán sóisialta Snapchat.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has four weeks to appeal against the leniency of the sentence but no announcement has yet been made.
Tá ceithre seachtaine ag an Stiúrthóir Ionchúiseamh Poiblí le achomharc a dhéanamh in aghaidh bhoige na pianbhreithe ach níl aon fhógra déanta faoi sin fós.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee praised Natasha O'Brien for speaking openly and bravely about the vicious attack on her.
Mhol an tAire Dlí agus Cirt Helen McEntee Natasha O'Brien as labhairt go hoscailte agus go cróga faoin ionsaí fíochmhar a rinneadh uirthi.
