The Bhāgavatam teaches that gurus are everywhere, beginning with the earth itself. Learn from matter, from the ground beneath your feet. Don’t despise the world; don’t say, “I need to get out.” Even a child or a prostitute can be a teacher, because guru is everywhere—Kṛṣṇa is everywhere. True discipleship is seeing that presence in all things.
Renunciation (sannyāsa) is often misunderstood as rejection or escapism. But real renunciation is gratitude in action: letting go of one stage of life to enter the next, not with bitterness but with higher attachment. To see everything in relation to Kṛṣṇa is true renunciation. The universe itself is filled with objects for the Lord’s service; every element is adorable, waiting to be offered.
This includes the body and sexuality, which must be approached with understanding, intimacy, and responsibility. Repression or escapism distorts it; healthy expression fosters connection, vulnerability, and creativity. Even transcendental union, like that of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, shows that sexuality, freed from selfishness, can be sacred.
Ultimately, whether monk or householder, celibate or married, the goal is to see all matter as sacred, all relationships as offerings, and all experiences as avenues to engage with Kṛṣṇa. Nothing is profane; everything is guru, everything is prasāda, everything can be part of the divine ārati of existence.
