‼️ "The percentage of employees replaced by AI".
That was the KPI proudly presented by an AI expert at a recent event I attended.
When I asked "What if your client challenges you to replace 100 percent of their employees?"
He smiled and said "That’s a challenge I’d like to take".
Then I asked "Are you sure? Is that aligned with your company’s purpose?"
Silence. That silence has stayed with me.
Because as AI systems grow more autonomous, more agentic, and more embedded into the core of our institutions, the question is no longer whether they can optimise, but whether they still serve our purpose.
💡 "Optimisation is a tool, not a virtue."
💡 "Neutrality is not the absence of choice; it is the silent encoding of someone else’s."
💡 "Purpose must become a product, embedded in architecture as rigorously as security or performance."
💡 "Artificial intelligence without ethical intelligence is, ultimately, the ruin of the soul."
In my article and podcast "When Purpose Drifts: Institutions at the Edge of Conscience in an Intelligent Age", I explore why purpose is no longer a statement. It’s a system level constraint, and what it means to build institutions that know when to say no, not just yes faster.
