The new national School Curriculum is getting closer and has already been introduced in parts by different state or territory education bodies. The National Curriculum’s aim is to standardise education in all states and territories across the country and set out what is expected for students to learn and the consistencies to indicate how successful this learning has been. This final curriculum is a progressive development and could be signed off by as early as October, but there are still some concerns especially in the area of Religion and Ethics.

From the 17-19th August – thousands of mostly young people will be giving something up to make a difference in developing countries, by taking part in the annual 40 Hour famine. This is probably the most well known charity project of the Christian Charity World Vision. Rev Tim Costello tells us more about this year’s event.

One of the great things that has transpired over recent times with the Vision Radio Network, is the opportunity we have had to adopt a Christian radio station on the north side of Papua New Guinea. UCB Australia is supporting UCB in PNG to expand its operations to be an effective Christian broadcaster. Our very own Night Vision host Phil Dunk, wears another hat too. He’s the Chairman of the UCB – PNG board. It’s not at this point very sophisticated. The manager of the station lives in a grass hut; but there is a big vision, for a network of stations throughout Papua New Guinea. Phil Dunk is back with us today.

Over the last week, there has been a lot of comment regarding the shooting massacre of movie goers in America. On his blog Culture Watch, Bill Muehlenberg weighed in on the debate of cause and effect and how God is present even amongst a tragedy like this.

One of the enjoyable opportunities we have on Twenty20 is to catch up with Christian ministers from all over the world who visit Australia. One of those well known evangelists on our shores at present is Georgian Banov. Born in Bulgaria, escaped the Iron Curtin in the 1970s, had an encounter with Jesus when he fled to the United States. He had come from a life of being a European rock star in Bulgaria, and in the US went on to lead in the well known 1980’s Christian group Silverwind... Georgian was also responsible for bringing the Bible in Bulgarian language, to his homeland after the fall of communism.
