210: Benilde Little: How to Close the Gap Between Creativity and Entrepreneurship

Listen Later

Benilde Little is a bestselling author who has been "on her own" as a creative for 20 years, but the former Essence magazine editor just recently began to view herself as an entrepreneur. As time went on and industries – especially the book publishing industry – continued to change, the Newark, New Jersey, native embraced the idea of entrepreneurship, in part out of necessity.

On this episode, Benilde talks about transitioning into entrepreneurship as a creative, how to embrace that creative part of yourself no matter how "weird" it may seem, the journey of overcoming a deep depression and channeling your experiences into your work, and Benilde's own mission of empowering women to be vulnerable and transparent.

On this episode you'll learn:

Why it's important to see yourself as an entrepreneur, even as a creative. How to know when what you're doing may not be your "song."The importance of having an accountability partner.Embracing your "weird" side.Owning your sensitivity and vulnerability.Getting over your "shoulds."Channeling your experiences into your creative work.
