Cosmetologists, Barbers Could No Longer Need State License to Practice if Bill
Passes
From clean shaves to fades and getting your hair did or nail polished, all these
services require the person performing the duties to be licensed but that could soon
change
One lawmaker is proposing to get rid of those state licenses, so anyone can practice
cosmetology
State Rep. Matt Shaheen said the bill filed in the state legislature will make it easier
to create jobs in the industry, calling the training unnecessary
On an average to receive a state license to practice cosmetology, the student needs
to put in 1,500 hours of work which include proper sanitation, practicing on clients,
classroom hours, and dealing with harsh chemicals.
o Do you think this bill should or shouldn’t pass? Why?
