Hello and welcome, Janet Beckers here with your Wonderful Web TV Tip of the Week. Today, we’re going to talk about, How To Not Pimp Your List.

What is pimping your list? Well, if you’re finding that you’re sending e-mails out to your mailing list because you’re going to make some money as an affiliate and you’re just doing it a lot, or you might be saying, people can say, “Okay, can I pay you some money and I can e-mail your mailing list?” and you’re out that all the time, you could be pimping your list. I’ll tell you what, that is a great way to wreck your reputation and to really just do long-term damage. That’s what pimping your list looks like, when you’re sending things out all the time and honestly, they’re not really helping people and you just seem a little bit desperate as if you’re just throwing ideas.
I know you’ve been on mailing lists like this, haven’t you? Unsubscribed, yeah. I know I do. How do you stop yourself from pimping your list when you get to the state where you’ve got a mailing list and you’re not necessarily wanting to sell your own goods and services, and provide you’re own content. Here’s the criteria that I use to make sure that I don’t pimp my list. Yes, I do get paid sometimes to send them e-mail, how good is that? I do send e-mails out and I make money as an affiliate, but I’m not pimping my list. Here is why. I’ll grab my notes here so I can tell you the criteria. Number one, ask yourself before you accept an offer or go to send an e-mail, “Will this help my subscribers? Is it going to solve a problem for them? Is it going to help them with something?”
They’re on your list for a reason, is this going to help them for reason that they need? That’s number one. Then, the next one is, is the people who you are about to promote, or the product you’re about to promote, is it a competition for you? Sometimes you can think short-term and go, “Yeah, well, here’s a great fifty percent commission and I’m going to make a thousand dollars even if I get one sale. Yeah, I’m going to send that out to my mailing list.” It can help people answer number one, but you know what? If they’re a competitor it’s really only going to confuse your clients and they may decide that they’re going to stick with them and not with you. That’s pimping your list, if you’re looking at the short-term, not long-term.
Another something to say, that quite often people may be competing on something but not on something else. Quite often I will do joint ventures with people who may, on the outside, seem a competitor but we have things that are complimentary. Let’s look at number three, this is absolutely number one. If you’ve met the first two criteria, the third one is, do they have amazing integrity? Remember anything that you send out to your mailing list, as a referral, if people go over to them and they’re not happy, they will remember it was you that called them and it is condemning to your reputa...
